Alternative Necromancer Upgrade Name

Don't bother replying unless you have a new name. Put your thoughts about the unit in the other thread on this topic: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic. ... 4&start=45

Other: Dark Sorcerer.

I like Dark Mage, but it seems too second level, so I made up this variation on it that IMHO sounds better than the rest, and it pretty self-explanatory.

Other:

Nether Mage - I personally dislike this one, but it came to my mind.

Infernal Mage - hm, maybe not suited for BfW flavour.

Mage of Darkness - the opponent of the Mage of Light, anyone?

Blue mage, since he attacks with cold magic, not shadow magic.

:? Frankly, I've never liked the name "dark adept", and simply on grounds of being too generic.

I wish the progression went something like...

Necrolyte -> Necromancer -> Necromaster
Necrolyte -> Necromancer -> Lich

Or if we split at level 1...

Necrolyte -> Demilich -> Lich

A necrolyte is just an acolyte of death.

Wrong, the demilich is a lot more powerful than a lich! 8)

Only in D&D. The real meaning of demilich is less powerful...

Of course in D&D the excuse is that the Demilich has rotted all but completely away, becoming a basically incorporeal entity, hence half a Lich....

That said, Demilich is already used in Gwiti's advancement tree. (How he jumps from "Demilich" at level 3 to "Ancient Lich" at level 4, I don't know. :wink: )

I cast my vote for 'other'. That is, I want it to have a name other than the ones listed there.

Names in Wesnoth are usually very generic.

Personally I very much like 'Dark Lord'.

Isn't a dark lord more like sauron or morgoth (i.e. the "ultimate baddie")? This unit would probably never be used as a main enemy in a campaign; he was too cowardly to even become undead.

My opinions:

Descendent N.: Too confusing.
Ascendent N.: Isn't that the Lich?
Black Mage: Sounds too much like a level 2.
Dark Mage: Sounds too much like a level 1.
Dark Sorcerer: Maybe...
Mage of Darkness: It's not an opposite except in HP, no good.
Nether/Infernal Mage: as Rhuvaen said, out of BfW flavor.
Dark Lord: No leadership and weak attacks combine to make a very mediocre lord.
Blue Mage: Still L2 sounding, and doesn't fit the unit at all.
Necromaster: Far too similar to Necromancer.
