The answer to your problem is, once again, WINR: Wesnoth is created as this, and to change this to make it more realistic would throw over all gameplay mechanism existing so far. And I think this is a bad idea.

The last time I checked, Wesnoth is a fantasy themed game, and fantasy still means it's not real. Whoever creates the content has the say in artistic license. The only way to get what you want is thus doing it yourself.
