[interface] End turn button

Post by rmj »

This is a minor annoyance: the end turn button is at the very bottom of the screen. As a result it happens too often that after clicking the button the mouse cursor ends up slightly lower than the button and thus causes the map to move down. Thus I get a bouncing where the game focuses on an active unit, then drops down because the cursor is below the bottom, then moves back up etc. How about moving this button up about a quarter of an inch?

And I do know that I can turn off this movement by the preferences menu.

Skoal!

I would say actually to make the button area extend all the way to the bottom right corner of the screen (even though technically the button isn’t drawn all the way to the edge). Smart UIs do this. See Fitts’s law.

Windows start button for example. it's always easy to quickly move the mouse pointer to it and click on it, since you just have to get the mouse to the bottom-left corner of the screen; you don't even have to look at what you're doing to click on it. Also note that the Vista/Win7 start button itself doesn't actually extend all the way to the edge of the screen, (the circle is a little bit off to the right) but the clickable area does. It would be good for the End Turn button to function the same way.

That’s not really helpful for those who don’t know or want to use keyboard shortcuts in general.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm just biased—I play on a netbook, and do everything humanly possible to avoid using my trackpad.
