[mainline] Wolf Unit Advancements
Hello everybody,
I was wondering If there is going to be an advancement to the Wolf unit line.
I noticed that 1.8 had dire-wolf and great-wolf graphics in the core image folder and wondered if these units would be used mainline in 1.9.
If they are, then I had already created the unit files.
The wolf's advancement line:
Wolf ---> Great Wolf ---> Dire Wolf
Great Wolf stats same as Goblin Knight's. (alignment is changed to neutral)
Dire Wolf stats same as Direwolf Rider's. (alignment is changed to neutral)
So what do you think of the idea?

Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
IMO, if there were advancements for the wolf, I think it would be better to cap it at lvl 2. Just an opinion. Aren't direwolves supposed to be not common? Or am I wrong?

Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
Dire Wolves are, in fact, extinct, so they're not common at all.
But, yeah, the art is there. I would think a simple level 2 advancement would work best, if they aren't just separate units.

Yeah, I meant in the fantasy world anyway...
Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
Haven't played it in a while but Extended Era has a wolf line with advancements, or was it Era of Myths? Anyway, idea already implemented.
Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
Interesting. Would the Dire Wolf still have poison? If so, what is the rationale?Lord-Knightmare wrote:Hello everybody,

I have the art (almost) done, but I was waiting till post-1.8 to do it, since the game content was frozen prior to the release. Now is as good a time as any.
Understandably, the direwolf won't have poison.
I'll be including a variant of the L2 which has a ruddy color - campaign designers may wish to use these as "acquirable mounts", and that would be the appropriate one for the pillager. For obvious reasons, it won't have different stats than the regular L2.

Here are the unit files.
They are completely balanced, I think.Creator of "War of Legends"

Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
Balancing is always depending on the other units in the same faction and the units in the factions against which your factions plays. So, for a single unit there is no concept of "completely balanced".Lord-Knightmare wrote:They are completely balanced, I think.
(You could say: they would serve as a drop-in replacement for the wolf-riding units in the Northerners faction in Default Era without changing balance, if they have the same stats.)
Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
Sure, they may be uncommon, but you can recruit a bunch of Goblin Wolf Riders and level them to level 3, and you have a bunch. Same with some other races, for example, Liches (maybe just Ancient Liches) are legendary too, and they're popping up left and right.elvish_sovereign wrote:IMO, if there were advancements for the wolf, I think it would be better to cap it at lvl 2. I'm totally for this idea of leveled Wolves.

Comes from Demilich from mainline.Hulavuta wrote:Same with some other races, for example, Liches (maybe just Ancient Liches) are legendary too, and they're popping up left and right.

Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
There is no Demilich in Mainline...
My Point is that the Ancient Liches and Liches are supposed to be rare and take up a lot of energy to make, but anyone can get a Lich playing as Undead, and tons of campaigns have tons of Ancient Liches as villains. So it's a less big of a deal with Dire Wolves.

IIRC, there was a unit with that name in one of the earlier releases, but I honestly can't remember.Hulavuta wrote:There is no Demilich in Mainline...

Re: Wolf Unit Advancements
It's a unit from The Dark Hordes, the best IMO Undead campaign ever.
