A few thoughts on the Dark Sorcerer
So I am going to do something that is fairly discouraged, and go out and propose a change to a unit, mostly for reasons of multiplayer. But it is not a major change, and in some ways is actually cosmetic.
The change I would like to see in the Dark Sorcerer is a decrease in its melee power. The reasons for this are not so much about game balance as they are about the unit's character. There is a balance part of it in a way, I seem to notice (and maybe I am selectively noticing this), that Dark Adepts seem to be the center of most Undead armies, and that they are also leveled up quite frequently, much more so than mages do.
As it is, the Dark Adept has no melee attacks, and it levels up to the Dark Sorcerer, a unit with 3 (admittedly weak) melee attacks. 3 is a high number of melee attacks for a unit that is a ranged, magic specialist. Giving it a 4-2 attack, or perhaps a 5-2 attack, would seem to make more sense.
Game play reason to adopt this change: Would make the unit more vulnerable to attack if its gigantic magical attack failed.
Cosmetic reason to adopt this change: Would relate better to the story of Dark Adepts being so obsessed with magic that they fail to develop their physical skills. The Dark Sorcerer would know how to swing a staff, but still not very well.
Any ideas on this? It is just a thought I had, and I am certainly not particularly enamored of it.
(Oh, and I know that no changes are going into the game anytime soon, this is more a theoretical question).

Don't go to Glowing Fish for advice, he will say both yes and no.
Re: A few thoughts on the Dark Sorcerer
Getting the melee attack is kind of the dark sorcerer's thing. Yeah, it's a pretty marked difference, but it's there for a reason--look at how little growth he has on his ranged attack!

Locked.
I suspect having one foot in the past is the best way to understand the present.
