BfW vs mobile devices

Post by Nikolay »

Are you going to make BfW available on mobile devices (Symbian, WM or J2ME)?

as it's written in C++, you can't just port it to java, especially not the mobile edition (that one just sucks).

Perfect would be getting a phone that actually supports *real* programs. But the closest you'll get at the moment will be palmtops and google's Android.

I have discovered BfW few days ago, I played it few times and I really like it. But I really would like to have it on my mobile :) I know, it's written in c++, but maybe it wolud have sense to rewrite it in j2me? I think there is more people like me that would like to play it on mobile. I am actually an Java programist, and with some help of you - I think that maybe i could try to rewrite many parts in java, but some good documention would be needed then(some roadmap, tasks etc.). So.. maybe there is sense to make a mobile version of this really nice game?

That wouldn't just require porting the entire thing, it'd also require rewriting the interface and lots more (tinygui wouldn't be suficient either).

So the answer, most probably, is no.

hmm? with some slight modifications, tinygui runs pretty well on 3310, at least.

That would be like... 1 year of full-time work for 10-20 people who are C++ and Java experts. I doubt you would find such volunteers. Even if you find a person who is total Wesnoth fanatic, with C++ skills he would probably prefer to contribute to original Wesnoth.

Hmm, judging by that screenshot, Wesnoth would do better to make the minimap whole-screen and togglable. I can't see it being spectacularly useful at that size and it's taking up prime screen real estate.

we do have a tiny-gui mode, and it runs on gp2x

so anything that can run sdl is a potential candidate
