Organized Art topic: Target choice

Post by Shadow »

Turitorials are fine and dandy Tutorials but they don't replace practice.
I would like to start a small topic in the Art Workshop where I would gave a provide a topic and an example and every spriter who is interested could take part in it.
The aim would be that the all would create in 5 steps a scratch build sprite.

The main question is, a) is the intersest high enough and b) further suggestions?

Fixed spelling for clarity sake

If there's not a minimum skill level requirement, I'd be in it...

Though i'm not QUITE sure i understand the concept, it sounds like fun. I'd be interested.

sounds very fun, and could be a good way to find hidden talent lurking in the forums ;)
I suggest to give a long time between stages so slow / busy people can participate

Personally, I anticipate something like this (though probably not as formal):
(BTW, the index to all the weeks' efforts is here - I recommend a look, it's interesting in its own right).

It's a brilliant idea, Shadow.

Re: Further suggestions: I think it would be a good idea to schedule the stages. eg. Spend 3 days on each stage. Since not everyone can make it to the forum (or dedicate time to spriting) every single day it keeps everyone in synch. (More eager people can prepare multiples at each stage).

P.S. "Organiced" is spelt "Organised" (or "Organized" in US English).

Actually, I believe he is referring to 'organic' as though 'made from scratch.' But yeah, confused me for a moment too.

This was exactly what I thought. :) Thanks Irrevenant.

I would try to provide a subject and everyone tries to sprite it in 4 or 5 steps. At every step I would provide my version of the subject so that the guys who haven't the skills yet can still participate. For the others we would just improve the existing ones if necessary and or discuss what can be improved.

The trick is that we need enough guys to participate and some work on my side.

notice that on those forums, out of 40 people who signed up, only 15 stayed with it till final grades.

so you better start a list of signups now & try to get a decent amount of people there!

OK. Let's start to sign in here and now.

For the guys who already said OK. Please reconfirm and give you opinion on the topic.
Image

Before you start screaming bloody murder.
a) The guy is non humanoid so you won't stumble upon many anatomical flaws.
b) He's pretty solid so he should be easier too sketch.
c) The reference is good and colorless you can still decide in the process what color he should have.
d) Huge areas of one color. No textures and armor for the beginning.
e) he looks cute. (Kill me I also got weak moments)

Serious I already started to sketch him out and I think that he is manageable. Though I still would appreciate feedback from the others if he is too hard, unappreciated and perhaps alternatives.

I didn't post before but I'm interested in signing up. The model in question looks fine to me, reminds me of Drakes.
