Cyborg or Android.
Will people please learn the difference!
An android is a robot which looks human
a cyborg is either a human with robot parts or a robot with human parts (quite a grizzly scenario, but anyway). I have seen several movies which get it wrong, apparently "cyborg" sounds cool so it doesn't matter what is correct or not.
So what would a human constructed on a molecular level from minerals by machines which had developed intelligence be?
What would a human who has undergone gene modification and cosmetic surgery to resemble a machine be?
How can a movie with a $300000000.oo budget not have enough to pay someone to check if they got something as wrong as calling a can opener a toaster?
...apparenly we can't go with it or something.

Yes, please!Midnight_Carnival wrote:Will people please learn the difference!
That still sounds like a cybernetic organism, to me. So: cyborg.Midnight_Carnival wrote:So what would a human constructed on a molecular level from minerals by machines which had developed intelligence be?
Sounds like a chimera to me.Midnight_Carnival wrote:What would a human who has undergone gene modification and cosmetic surgery to resemble a machine be?
Perhaps because $299,900,000.00 of that went into that really cool explosion scene you see in all the TV ads and only $100,000.00 went to the screen writers and copy editors?Midnight_Carnival wrote:How can a movie with a $300,000,000.00 budget not have enough to pay someone to check if they got something as wrong as calling a can opener a toaster?
I forked real life and now I'm getting merge conflicts.

C3P0 is my favourite cyborg.
Re: Cyborg or Android.
No, C3PO was an android. Human shaped, no living tissues. General Gravicus and Darth Vader were cyborgs. And later Luke could be considered a cyborg too, because his prosthetic hand was a robotic body part.Flameslash wrote:C3P0 is my favourite cyborg.

Don't be silly. He's clearly an android.ForestDragon wrote: at least you didn't call R2D2 a cyborg, that would be ridiculous

I think the small thing supporting him from below is too short to be called a leg. Also, he uses those arms with wheels to move around, so he's more an ape-oid.Flameslash wrote:Don't be silly. He's clearly an android.

Re: Cyborg or Android.
Ii though that he was a robot, at least is this what I call al those multi-purpose machines in sciencefiction movies, go transformers autobots!
Android, droid, automa, cyborg, animatronic, robot, bionic man, too many terms for similar things just call them machines and semi-machines.
Hmm, but that's too vague, maybe.
So I just stck with the word robot.

You did not add a , or to that. Tsk tsk.Flameslash wrote:Learn something new everyday
Edit: Just in case this comes across the wrong way, all meant in good humor.
Edit2: And just to stay slightly more with the original topic (sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread), I entirely agree with this: "How can a movie with a $300000000.oo budget not have enough to pay someone to check if they got something as wrong as calling a can opener a toaster?" The level of completely unnecessary silly mistakes in even high-budget movies really bugs me at times. I mean, no, I don't expect scifi movies to be 100% realistic, that's not what they are for, but there're tons of things where it really would not make any difference to the "dramatic effect" to get it right and usually consulting somebody who's taken highschool physics (or English, or history, ...) would be sufficient.
