16 bits games where I employed more hours of my life: "Civilization" and "X-Com"
I couldnt stop playing them again, and again, and again....

But my best reminds come from: "Monkey Island" and "Day of Tentacle"
I still laught remebering their best parts

8 bits was a world for iron men. No saves, no stage paswords, just 1 live... oh man, I miss when games wasnt for everybody
Hard chose one among that huge amount of games, when just 1 guy could do one in 1 month...

If I have to chose one, I supose I pick "Lemmings", probably father of all puzzle games (may be wasnt first one, but was first in have great popularity)

Didn't Lemmings have stage passwords? I'm almost positive my MasterSystemII version had them.
But yeah, Mario and the likes didn't let you save.

I'll cast another vote for Lemmings and Oh No, More Lemmings. Other sequels that I've tried I've been less fond of.

I will say though that I'd give quite a bit for a remake that simply allows for a couple interface improvements, namely the ability to hot key jobs (probably with the number keys) and the ability to filter lemmings for which direction they are facing (for example if you hold down the right arrow key you can only assign jobs to lemmings facing right.

Wasteland did precisely the opposite of this and achieved the same result. Your save was written to the Wasteland floppy, so you couldn't go back. If your characters died, that's it, no save loading.

Wasteland misses out on Greatest Retro Game Ever though, because I had THREE copies of it corrupted before I came to my senses and learned to make a backup and play from that.

I still to this day struggle to defeat this game because it is f****** hard. I am preparing for the day of 2084 and the rise of the robots.

Get angry, or get dead.

Good gameplay still trumps all, but graphics are nice to have.

for me it has to be UFO: enemy unknown (XCOM in the US i think)

I love the world map and reasearch, then turn based strategic battles..... and once the blaster launchers are researched they are hella fun

Alright, I just discovered world of emulation...
And I have made mistake of trying to play Chrono Trigger.
In fact, that's the reason behind why I stopped doing... everything other, in fact.
The best. RPG. Ever. (Maybe holds that place ex aequo with Planescape: Torment).

Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

That is an amazing game. I hereby rate it the Best Nintendo/Xbox/Playstation game. EVER. And then there's Star Fox 64.

Thanks to Arnold/Linux I've rediscovered Sorcery Plus. Twenty years on, I still haven't worked out how to kill this bloody necromancer (if anyone knows, no spoilers please)

Surprisingly, it holds up very, very well. The graphics, while stylised and simplistic don't feel too old. The sound effects are, while not fantastic, don't stand out as being twenty years old. The gameplay is as good as it ever was...all in all, the spiffiest thing since spiff itself.
