I'll see if I can use this "GIMP :| " thing...
Trust me, if you've got Photoshop CS 2, you've got all you need (and then some). GIMP is a great open-source (and, more importantly, free) alternative to Photoshop, but it really can't compete with Adobe in most areas (although animated .gif creation in GIMP is miles above Photoshop Elements). At least not yet.

The only reason I even have GIMP installed on my computer is for animating GIFs. (I use PS elements for everything else)

No Way!!! :D This thing(GIMP) is free and it works just like Photoshop! Now I don't have to switch computers to make sprites, this is great  !

Edit: I made my first "from scratch" sprite. Pretty good for a first one.

Paint is fine. It's Not What Program You Have, It's What You Do With It That Counts.™ Zerovirus himself uses MS Paint, and look at the stuff he does with it. In the end, the essential tools and capabilities of all pixel-art programs are the same, and (although there are those who would claim otherwise) you can achieve the same results with MS Paint that you can Adobe Photoshop CS 5.

I think I said like a year ago or something that I'd learn GIMP and switch over to it since everyone else was saying how many extra features GIMP had. As of now, I can use GIMP in respect to pixelart well enough- but I'm not used to it if only for the fact that I haven't been able to find a line-tool all this time. Without a tablet, I've been majorly relying on the line-tool for precision pixel placement, and all of GIMP's bonuses are rather set back in that light. Still, I find that GIMP is great for designing animations and other special effects- but as of now I'm still sticking to MS Paint, I suppose.

(If the line-tool in GIMP is sitting right there and I've been a blind idiot for the last whenever, pointing that out would be great :P)

Zerovirus:
If you want to draw a straight line (I hope I understood you correctly), you'll have to use the "paint" or the "brush" tool (or how they are called), click on the start point, press "Shift" and click on the end point. With "Shift" and "Ctrl" pressed simultaneously, you'll achieve angled lines ( | / - etc.).
Was this what you're looking for?

Ooooo. Thanks!

...Why would such a basic functionality be embodied not even in its own tool but as a shortcut function? Slightly cludgy but maybe I can get used to this over time.

:D
As I use to say: GIMP is able to do anything - if you would only know how!
By the way, in GIMP's status bar appear useful shortcuts from time to time. For example, if you already painted one point, there appears a message "press <Shift> for a straight line" (or something alike). :)

...but why are you posting it here? You'd be better off posting it in the Art Workshop, where it'll get more critique. Here it'll just get ignored and lost.

You can't move threads. Only moderators/administrators can. PM a moderator such as Gambit, shadowmaster, Pentarctagon to move your thread for you. Posting it again is not a good idea.

EDIT: Never mind. It seems that you have already re-posted it.
