Even then, it's still not a number, thousand separation markers (when used, in English they're usually omitted these days in favour of spaces) only occur every three figures, not every one.

There is no way that I know of that a number of the format x.x.x could be mathematically viable.

Here in Venezuela we do the same. Points to separate larger numbers like 1.000.000 (one millon) and Dots to separate decimals Like 0.1 (1/10). This help a lot in the larger numbers load.


I think the numbers like x.x.x are to separate numbers and they aren't decimals. I remmind the 1.3 saga what had 19 diferent versions 1.3.0 at 1.3.19.

I think the first number (1.x.x) is a very stable number what changes only with great changes of the codes. I the end of the work in 1.9 must launch the stable version 2.0.0 when it finishes, but to the version 1.0.0 advances to 2.0.0 there must be a lot of changes in the graphics, game balancing and other stuffs.

The second number (x.1.x) is to say important changes like in the graphics or in the game balancing of the game. There was a great difference in the version 1.0 to 1.2. The pair numbers are always the stable versions and the impair numbers are the devolopment versions. The devolpment versions are creating the changes to the next stable version, but the devolopment version changes more often than the stable one.

The third number (x.x.1) is say minor changes like in the stats of the units, lowly in graphics and for bug fixes.


This is what I think about the numering of the versions, If you can fix me in a thing it must be helpful for me :)

Maybe on your side of the "pond"...
Spaces used for thousand separators are extremely rare in American English.
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

I never have understood hexadecimal codes. :doh:
I get the 0123456789ABCDEF part, but how do you make two digit numbers with it? How does FF turn out as 256? :?

It doesn't. It's 255.
Each place is 16 times greater than the previous, so FF = 16*F + 1*F = 255 in decimal
Just like 255 = 100*2 + 10*5 + 1*5
256 in hex is 100.

Think about it this way. Count out ten numbers. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 now start at 0 instead. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 That's as high as you can go without switching to the next err... level. And then on those "level"s you can go to 99 before you have to go with three digits. But if you add letters, you're now counting in 16's rather than 10's.

00,01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09,0a,0b,0c,0d,0e,0f

0a is now 10, and 0b is 11 and so on. So you have 16 in a "level". So when you get to right before three digits you have FF. Remember "ninety-nine"? Well this is "sixteenty-sixteen". That's 256, but we started at 0 so it's 255 here.

I think that for now, I'll just keep using MS Calculator to convert to hexcodes when necessary... :P
