similar to hte FPS/army expectations - at an airsoft game it is always lovely to see some newbies with an airsoft sniper rifle, because "hell AWM is the best weapon in CS" getiing shot again and again and complaining about other players playing unfair
don't get me wrong I enjoy using a bolt action sniper rifle, cause it's fun and a challenge (even if I have to respawn more often and play somewhat differently), it's just that somebody comes to the game and expects it to work like an FPS

to RTS/TBS: one of the finest games for training low level command would be close combat by microsoft - very realistic and all, but still - it lacks communication defficiency between troops and commander, you still see the battlefield top>down and know the exact location and status of your troops...

from POW of FPS games I'd go for Brothers in arms - the tactical element is very nice and I'd even say realistic...apart from that I doubt that FPS have much effect to your combat effectivity apart from reaction time...

My biggest peeve about that is actually people who think that skill in rock band/guitar hero is equitable to actually skill in those said instruments. Even drumming and vocals, which are closer to a real indicator, are quite lacking, as you don't need to have a good tone, control over volume or control or anything to do well...

Some of my wife's friends think they are actually good singers because they do fairly well at "Singstar". I don't have to mention that they sound just bloody awful do I?

This seems to be mildly popular. I'm going to let off my next rant. This one might not be as big a thing as the first, because I have less to say about it.

This rant might be a little mature for some people. Mostly for young kids. It's not seriously bad, but it might be for kids with parents who don't want them getting involved in the "real world" just yet.

This is about people who use "sexy" stuff in their ads to get people to click. This applies to a lot of things. One large example is Evony.

If you don't know what I mean, just yahoo or google image the word "Evony" and you will see what I mean. Not ALL of their ads do this, but the majority of the ads do. They use a provocative image of a woman, with the Evony logo, and text saying "Play now my lord" or "Everyone's playing it!" or something like that. Only 2 of the many ads for Evony I've seen actually show any sort of gameplay at all.

Why? They are taking advantage of today's society, where sex is a topic you can find everywhere. Today's society is full of perverted and lustful people, (admittedly I'm one of them) and these people are taking advantage of them by putting "porn" in their ads. This will get people to click the ads. This is an effective tactic; I see the ads everywhere, therefore they must be making a ton of money from it. Although personally I don't think that the women in the ads are that hot.....

This is just low. Really low. How can somebody do this? Even if someone clicked on it, they wouldn't play if it wasn't their type of game anyway. So you're still getting the same amount of players. Although you may make a bit more in ad revenue from your little disgusting "porn" ads. This also shows a lack of character. I for one would NEVER use provocative images to get people to play a game that has nothing to do with it. If the site ACTUALLY DID have porn on it, I wouldn't have a problem, because at least they aren't lying about what the content is.

I know that they have words that say that it's a game, but with text messaging and YouTube, kids just don't know how to read anymore.


This is low, and unnecessary. You're still going to have the same amount of players, and it's just taking advantage of the sickos as well. It's just low.


I know no one working with Evony is never going to read this, much less listen, as it creates money, but perhaps they are already doing it. I've seen a few Evony ads over the past few days, (they're everywhere!!!) which have more or less a picture of some sort of warrior and a building from the game. Perhaps they might stray away from what I mentioned earlier. I certainly hope so.

I think the silly thing about Evony ads is that they don't tell you "I want you to check out this game!" so much as they tell you "I want to give you a virus!" or "I'm insulting your intelligence!"
