We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay . While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list.
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize other’s...
Hello, I'm french and I'm just starting to translate a part of the IFTU campaign from english into french. I've a few suggestions for the english text:
one sentence in the english text says:
But the little evidence we had of her death was not enough to stop me from wondering whether I would find...
I've sometimes thought about turning a song into a campaign. One in particular is Dire Straits song The Man's Too Strong. I've imagined it as a story told by a man awaiting death sentence for his crimes in war (which would in quasi-medieval setting most likely deal with cowardice and treason),...
I came up with this a while ago, and mentioned it in another thread. Up until that point, I hadn't actually considered it with relation to reproductive dynamics, so it does make a couple of assumptions about gender and reproduction in Orcs.
The idea is thus: there are three sizes of Orc - major...
It's hardly a secret that I'd love this to become canonical for the game. There was some discussion on the origin of moders intelligent races in wesnoth, perhaps this journal found in a dusty corner of a library at Alduin will shed some light on this.
There are good posting guidelines and probably tutorials already, and you should read those.
I just thought a rough guide to some of the things that people struggle with in English might also be helpful.
This is an English forum, but many of its members are still learning English and...
Elves developed by Kitty have scary eyes. The look like blind. Of course Elves can see and are humanoid enough to assume that their eyes aren't much different from human eyes. But why they look like they have no pupils, just white or grey mass? I have some ideas about this:
The following suggestion constitutes a subversion of HttT storyline, it was never meant to replace the original, nor to alter the campaign. Take this as fan fiction in progress...
Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I'll begin.
We all know that in Wesnoth there are good guys and bad guys, in...
I got a bit frustrated with the discussion on evolution in Wesnoth and thought it best to post this thread, for reasons given in my post.
I love the idea of spirits giving form to matter, and of different races emerging as a result of this, so why don't we start there, and see if it leads to...
I'd be grateful for any and all suggestions for nice, interesting and snappy short slogans that describe a species/race or a faction in the Wesnoth universe.
Two semi-bad examples in orange:
It doesn't matter (to me and my goals with this) much how in game storyline or historically correct...
Okay, I've been designing a campaign that doesn't have anything to do with my era (it makes a nice change) for Drakes, and since I'm not so great at writing anyway, I'd like to give the story so far (the rest is only a basic plot) for comments and critiques.
As I am starting to write a story that might become the base for a campaign, I would like to know as much as possible about the way that Wesnoth's army and government are formatted. For example, are there governors over provinces, or does the king have singular and ultimate control over everything?...
I've started a draft article on the Wiki about Wesnoth nobility among the various races, and some of the associated etiquette. There are still gaps, and I haven't even checked it against the game canon yet. But the basic structure is now there, and the next stage is to let people know it exists and...
While playing recently, I've noticed that while the major races like humans and orcs have lengthy descriptions, some of the other races don't, and this information is often contained elsewhere, such as in unit descriptions and on the wiki. I've taken the liberty of trying to consolidate some of...
Hey all. I've been working on an overhaul of all the text in Two Brothers--the writing wasn't bad, but the story was only a skeleton, and had all sorts of unexplained holes--for instance, who are those orcs that just came out of nowhere, and why was Bjarn captured instead of killed? I wanted to try...
Some new tips added (Currently commented out pending approval. I don't claim to be an ace player; maybe they're dud advice. Note that the 'feral' tip is speculative as that feature isn't even in the game yet.)
Some old tips reworded. (Some of these also ought to be agreed by the...
Since we seem to have settled on the idea of Ancient Liches having a somewhat freeform anatomy, I thought I'd take the liberty of coming up with a unit description which should fit whatever layout the final generic Ancient Lich takes:
Ancient Liches are artisans of necromantic power, consummate...
Hi all! So since mehmode has not done been giving me anything to do for Res Magica, I'm thinking of making my own era. Now an idea that's been bouncing around in my head for a while is an era themed around unexplored and exotic places in Irdya. One in particular that's caught my attention is the...
Everybody knows at least one story about an Elf, or a Dwarf.
Other races such as Goblins, Naga, Trolls may feature in the stories, but they will be the bad guys and thus misrepresented.
What I'm trying to do is write stories for under/misrepresented races, tell the tales they would tell.
This is in response to something that was brought up in the Ancient Lich Development thread, here:
Rather than clutter that thread with something only tangentially related, I've made a new topic for it. Since it's about fluff, I figured Writer's was the right place for it.
No doubt, some people have figured out from the hints I've dropped in various places that I've been making a campaign. This project is in fact almost done, and as I'm polishing it and squashing a few more bugs before I release it, I'm planning my next campaign.
I recently started playing the sceptre of fire; the campaign itself is fun, but there appears to be a problem with the character of Krawg, the griffon. He appears to be a fully sapient creature and is treated like one; didn't Dave himself say that griffons were supposed to be more comparable to...
I'd like to help with any text relevant to new eras, like unit descriptions or race fluff. The problem is I don't know which projects are in need of such text.
So, please post requests in this thread and I'll fulfill them ASAP.
A sample:
I've been playing Wesnoth for a year or two now, I've played (or attempted) most of the campaigns though I have some trouble with the expert level ones. It would be a priviledge to submit some writing to upcoming campaings/projects, or a new campaign? I can provide a sample if I have an idea what...
Hello!
Im doing a campaign of second punic war, well, since 1 year ago... but i had a lot of things to do...
Im trying to take some time to do this. For now im doing the story line, but i need your opinions, and some suggestions about the writing in general, 'cause i know something of english, but...
So I have played the majority of the main line scenarios and a few of the add-ons like Tale of the Wose, Dead Water and such. I have explored the servers and am interested in contributing. However the servers seem to be a bit vague as to who is hiring so to speak and a number of posts don't seem to...
While refreshing the screengrabs for the manual redraft, I'm already noticing inconsistent styling on the Wesnoth UI. For example in the Multiplayer preferences window, we have
What's with the inconsistent labeling style? This should be fixed to:
The hotkeys window contains two identical 'Play' and 'Stop' functions. From a quick browse of the source code, I can see that one's to stop replays, the other to stop Network... um, something. Not sure what. Network replays, presumably, but I'm not sure. It could be wesnothd for all I know....
