Wesnoth Organizational Updates Permanent archive for updates on decisions or reports made by the Battle for Wesnoth Project Council and the Wesnoth, Inc. Board of Directors. Moderator:Forum Moderators
We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay . While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list.
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize other’s...
If you will have custom units, images, sounds, or music, create those subdirectories and fill them with your custom units, images, sounds, and/or music.
It says the above in the wiki guide for making eras to publish them
where do i put these subdirectories and what do i call them?
I hope that developer forum is right place for this...
I was just using the map editor and I had a thought:
It could be nice to have control over the not-wholly-visible-hexes (or not-at-all-visible-) on the border of the map. They have no gameplay importance, but they do affect the aesthetics of...
- multi-hex attacks have been removed
- now if you click on an enemy unit who you can move and attack, it moves to the closest hex to the cursor, as originally proposed by quartex (IIRC)
Since non of my old savefiles will load, I'm replaying Heir to the Throne on Wesnoth 1.1. It's been a long time since I play through that campaign and I am enjoying the improved scenarios. But I have a few comments on the new version of Wesnoth:
In the scenario Crossroads , Delfador says We should...
Hardness is an idea that comes straight from my experience with DnD. A unit can take so much damage before it is affected permanantly. It can be thought of as automatic regeneration or better yet, a threshhold which must be broken for damage to be non-negligible.
Thanks to Elvish Pillager, there is no impediment anymore to making the gryphon rider's race be dwarf. HTTT has changed to cooperate with the rest of Wesnoth, which has gotten used to dwarves on gryphons.
Here is an art request: I would like to take advantage of the new capability and have the...
I've been playing Wesnoth for a few weeks, and I would love to help out with development. I haven't coded any C++ for about 6 years, so I'm kind of rusty, but I'm pretty good with C, and excellent with Perl and PHP. I can also write documentation and I have some design ideas.
Miyo has sent me an email telling me that while he has enjoyed working on Wesnoth, the time has come when he wants to move on to other things. We thank him for all his effort, and wish him the best of luck in future endeavors.
Miyo performed numerous valuable functions for us, which now need to be...
I recently discovered that Wesnoth is using mono music... is it due to save space? Hum... mono was fine... Thirty years ago! Mono effect makes it very distant and quite compressed. Any way to go towards stereo?
Once I got it working, this program of mine ran off these costs in a few seconds. Some of them, of course, are wrong. Elvish Marshal, for instance. That it thinks the Drake Flameheart is better than the Inferno Drake isn't because it's got them right, it's that the Flameheart is better than the...
its so stuopid that you know what race your opponent is useing just by music. So you dont get any advantage by playing random (knowing how to play them all)... if opponent choses some race and any way its stupid that you can buy counter units at the start even if both have random... I haven t been...
In the process of moving images into subfolder, i've come across some anomalies, and uncertainties.
A word about how we're doing this. We're placing units images in subfolder because the all units in one folder was for some nearly unbrowseable. We're not dividing them into MP faction folders,...
This is a suggestion that would take a long time and a lot of work to be implemented. Nevertheless, I think it's a good idea.
The idea is to remove the current base terrains, and replace them with more generic types or adjectives . I feel that it's not good to have a set number of base terrains...
A few units use this settings in their attacks : attack_weight and defense_weight :
- attack_weight influences how much often the attack should be used if we are attacking (through only the AI really use this), but it can be set to 0 to disable the attack when attacking.
As far i know, no current...
I'm reworking The North Wind, and I've found a minor glitch with the STARTING_VILLAGES macro: it doesn't affect all of the types of villages in the game (1.0.2). The line:
should read:
which nicely solves the problem. I've changed my program, but I'll have to copy the macro into the scenario...
Some users may be aware that it was noticed that a web-based game, PhantasyRPG ( was using images from Battle for Wesnoth without properly complying with the terms of the GNU GPL, by not displaying the GPL on their website.
I'm writing this message to let everyone know that I have discussed this...
I just noticed that there are no Naga male or Mermen female names in the list that gives units names. Is there going to be in version 1.1, or has nobody noticed?
I've had this in my mind for a while now... wouldn't it make more sense to give each unit its own directory for images? So, instead of putting all unit images in images/units/, the Elvish Fighter's would go in images/units/elvish-fighter/, the Elvish Archer's in images/units/elvish-archer/...
I wonder if it would be possible to port the Game to PocketPC. The SDKs are free aviable @ M$ and it would be great to have this game on our mobile Devices.

Here is the Service Pack 3 for embedded Visual C++ 4.0 (59MB):
Here is a wiki page with my list of the descriptions I think need rewriting. If you can improve that list (by taking off or adding units), do so. Also, if you have revised descriptions to suggest, either post them here...
Gryphon Riders are listed as humans, but their graphics clearly show dwarves riding them. I'd like to get this cleared up...
Having Gryphon Riders be dwarves makes the most sense to me, since the graphics are dwarves, they are allied with the Knalgans, not the Loyalists, and imho the idea fits in...
If you've played for a while i'm sure you have favorite combinations of traits for particular units.
When looking throught the recall list, my search for the perfect unit is slightly hindered by the fact that a unit with identical traits can be listed 2 different ways, Quick, Strong or Strong,...
