We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay . While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list.
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize other’s...

I've been on this forum for a bit of time now. Contributing had always been something that seemed beyond my skills, looking at all the great stuff that's posted here, but I've finally summed up the courage to try my hand at contributing some music.
Just a quick introduction: I'm a composer and music teacher in real life (mostly school stuff) but have loved fantasy gaming since I was a kid. Played the original Kings Quest, and was hooked. Have been wanting to try gaming music for awhile, and Wesnoth had just the right storyline to get my...
So, I finally screwed up enough courage to post this... I'd better hurry before I lose it all.
I want to make clear up front that I do not in any way intend this for mainline. I am pretty new to composing, and consequently this piece is of nowhere near sufficient quality.
Hey guys, I don't believe I mentioned this before, but I used to be a prolific composer of music. I've made over 80 songs, I believe, most of them orchestral, and I figured I'd share them with you:
that's my newgrounds audio page, where you can download my songs.
So I've been poking and prodding at this song for a while, and it's starting to come together into something I like. I imagine I'll be revising it more. Right now, it's too short and set up to loop (sorry for the abrupt ending) but I think it sounds good so far.
I created these from scratch for the FOSS RPG Summoning Wars, and since I'm releasing them under the GPL I thought Wesnoth users might also find uses for some of these. Enjoy. :)
I have spoken about the issue before but the thread got lost and went away from my point anyway, so I try again now.
It's more and more complicate to find a fitting music for the story part intros.
In earlier days most Wesnoth music was short like Elf Land or Transience .
But those short music...
I've been fooling around with Garageband recently, and I've come up with a dozen sound effects. Some are modified Garageband effects, and others were built from the ground up. I made them for my ongoing projects, but I though other people might also find a use for them somewhere. :)
Cakewalk has bundled its Dimension LE sampler with Garritan Pocket Orchestra and dropped the price from $99 to $19.99. Pocket Orchestra is a light version of Garritan Personal Orchestra.
So is this a great orchestral library? Not really. Worth twenty bucks? Definitely. I bought it earlier today...
Just wanted to know which version of East- West-Quantum-Leap would be the best to get for someone who can't afford the $1000 version. I looked around, but it there seems to be several different versions of the program. Any input would be appreciated. :D
Hey there - and yes, I've extended my lingering tentacles to this side of the forum, too. :D It's just, that I was browsing the kindly provided soundfonts the other day and - well... then this struck at me, like a bolt of lightning - just like the inspirations usually do. After I completed it, I...
Long story short, my main computer passed away unexpectedly a few weeks back, in it's sleep. I don't think there was any pain, it was probably the mobo that gave out. So until the time I can save up some money for a complete upgrade I'm on my backup system. Which is an Athlon XP 3000+ with 1GB...
So first of all, hello. I'm Ferrous, and I've been enjoying Wesnoth for about a year now, and sooner or later I'd like to start contributing to the music scene for Wesnoth (ETA is dependent on some RL issues). The two things that I'm good at is music (I happen to be a movie soundtrack aficionado...
I've been thinking about getting some sort of midi pad controller for a looong time, but being kind of poor I've never prioritized it. Playing percussive instruments on a keyboard is awkward, but it works. Recently however I became aware of the small, cheap and very popular Korg Nanopad , and as I...
From a length conversation I had with West recently, Rocket Slug's post on collaboration, and the fact that I'm getting a good recording setup finally, this all draws me to question how possible is collaboration to produce music fitting for Wesnoth. How could this be done? I want to begin an...
Hi all!! It's been a while sine I posted my last work (Broken Truth) and I've been busily working over the last few months. I also feel that it's time to ask THE question: Are the quality of my compositions good enough for mainline :D ?
I would prefer that you be frank when replying, as I'd...
I noticed that the scenario The Valley of the Dead - The Princess' Revenge (from Heir to the Throne) always has the same music looping again and again. So far it has been the hardest scenario for me and I had to retry it for hours before succeeding, and even if I didn't dislike this...
I have a friend who can compose and play fantastic songs on piano and she has one called winter landscape . To be honest, I don't see winter when listening to it, but I'm no music critic. Anyway, before asking her to record anything, I wanted to ask you if you need any winter theme. I checked in...
Hey all,
Yes, I'm still alive... :) I got this idea about 5 months back for a song, and I've worked on it here and there. As always, not sure how this would fit in, but I'm offering the song here for use in Wesnoth. Take a look, er, listen:
It does not have the resonance samples yet, I'll get...
There are tons of free .sfz files on Tyler's website, but since I'm on a mac using a mixture of garageband and logic, I'm unable to use them and have to make do with the avarage samples from Apple's orchestral jampack. Is there any DAW for mac that supports .sfz? I've looked around but I can't find...
A while back Dave suggested here (and I guess also here, too ) having a small jingle or piece of music that would play when an important unit were to advance a level or die, or perhaps after a mission success/failure. I've finally gotten around to crafting some short sounds. The goal is to have...
Now keep in mind I didnt write this or make it myself but I am close friends with the composer and did help on it a bit. I just wondered if it had a Wesnoth sound to it
I've got something in the works here for use in Battle type situations.
It's not complete yet, actually it's just started. But for the last week or so I haven't touched it. If I find enough motivation or support to bring it back to life, I will, if it is called for.
Glad to see the forum's up and running again.
I had posted this piece just before the crash. As I remember, reviews were mixed - but it could at least be put on the available music list for campaign developers.
Hate to see it go completely unused...
I've got something in the oven that would definitely work as a battle track, but I'm wondering if we need more. Aleksi's battle.ogg seems to be everyone's choice favorite for battle music. Casualties of War is a newer battle track so it hasn't made it to any mainline campaigns, I'm wondering if we...
