Several of our mainline campaigns are in the works for upgrades at the moment, which includes adding characters and enhancing existing scenarios. We are looking for more artwork to supplement these upgrades, including the following:
We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay . While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list.
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize other’s...
Now, I went and implemented an area map system in WML (and you can imagine what kind of a pain that was). Mostly for Storm of Steel , but slightly out of curiosity as well. Those unfamiliar with the term, an area map is a map in which the game board is divided into irregular areas that connect to...
Well, this is a system I created for Pencil and Paper RPGs. Looking forward to constructive criticism. :)
P.S It's not entirely complete yet.
P.P.S The title, Simplicity system is somewhat mistaken. It didn't turn out as simple as I planned it to.
EDIT: Deleted the file in here, the newer one is...
Are there any open source games which mimic the gameplay of a collectable card game such as Magic the gathering or other such games?
While I like the gameplay style, I hate that real life variations of these games are basically money sinks, and thus greatly enjoy video games that mimic such.
I was discussing some games (mostly Tremulous) with my friend when we came up with an idea. I'm a bit short on creativity, so right now the basis is it's aliens versus humans (boring I know). The humans wil be in a team from 10-15 players with various weapons playing FPS. Killing aliens earns the...
Are there any quality open source TBS games with honest ranged units and area of effect spells? What about just TBS games in general? Is it that hard to do right? Is it just KISS that made wesnoth have the ranged attacks must be adjacent feature?
I guess this post is targetted at the developers, but if anyone knows the answer they could probably answer me. :-)
I just wanted to know if the Wesnoth engine is free to use to create another game in the style of this one? I've been involved in game development for years now and worked...
I'm working on a JOGL-based RTS-type engine in java, most of which I intend to lease under the LGPL, and I was curious as to how to establish effective anti-cheating mechanisms.
I've been playing quite a bit of Sword of the Stars recently - 4X galactic conquest and expansion game, with a strong combat focus and some very tight design. Windows only, not too processor hungry.
The developers (Kerberos) are ex Barking Dog guys (Homeworld Cataclysm), who've decided they'd...
For a while now I've been working on a personal game project when I have the free time. It is a dark fantasy themed FPS, using a derivative of the GPLed Doom engine (a specially customized version of PrBoom to be exact.) While the project is still in the early stages, I now have a few sprites that...
Open Wesnoth, click on Multiplayer, select Host Networked Game. Host a game in that and have anybody (or nobody) join. Set a few players as AI, a few as localplayer.
The bug is in the control command - it is impossible to set a player to take control of a side controlled by the AI or by a...
I recently started being interested in coding which may seem weird considering that i play computer games from the age of 6. I searched the stuff on net for some guides itp. itd. to get some ideas what the heck do all the lines of C++ code mean. I found out some freeware coding program...
Hi all, maybe one of the developers could answer this for me.
I'm in my final year of a BSc Computing course and for my final year project I've ambitiously set out to create an RTS using C++, libSDL and OpenGL because I want the project to be multi-platform.
I really love this game :-) a lot of ascii dwarves (mostly) at your command
To enjoy this game really need to read the manual a couple of times and have the wiki at hand to find how to do some things...
Feed them, bed them, clothe them, armour them, drown them, bury them .. and love them..
Also...
I'm not very familiar with strategy games, so I don't know if this idea has been ever used, but during the last few days I have been thinkin about how first person view would work in a turn-based strategy game.
My idea is that the landscape would be 3d, but the only view the player would have of...
Ya,it has infringed the license. However,we can adopt some good ideas that Ultimatum .
For example, 1. building ,equipment and unit upgrades
2. the player can build structures
Vegastrike is an excellent open source free space simulator game. Just have a look.
For almost one year few things have been made, but the project still goes on!
To make the interface a little more intuitive, why not incorporate a radial menu for context menus (right clicks) similar to the one used in Neverwinter Nights? (See attached image)
Not only does it make it easier to include more options without having a huge list of words running down the screen,...
A really ugly clone of Wesnoth.
I'm not sure what the point is, or if they are infringing our license. They have modified lots of our graphics to be much lousier, but some obviously wesnothian graphics remain.
This thing was first noticed by a member of the Allacrost forums .
Spacenoth is looking for a code contributor, who could help changing things that the current coders can't. Such as recoding the ranges (we'll probably be having 3 ranges).
I have also posted this thread in User's forum and Game Developement
What would I use? C++, Java, VB, RealBasic? Suggestions, please. The RTS would have a sprites/graphics engine similar to Escape Velocity, and Top-down view on units only.
Which has the best performance?
Which is easiest to use to make an RTS?
Which would make the game look good?
Its been a long, long time since I first posted about some ideas I had for a role-playing game in this forum right here . We've made some enormous steps since then, and I wanted to share some screenshots that reflect the latest state of our game.
