there's also the fact that wesnoth sprites are set so that the viewer is slightly above them, and finding situations where that perspective is correct is hard.

It's factions v. factions, not unit v. unit. If you think the knalgan alliance is imbalanced, bring that up. If you simply don't like the unit, don't use it. It's in the editor, and in the game. Select it as a map from the multiplayer menu, and adjust settings, or make a new map in the editor and choose 'randomize map' and adjust settings there.

It would be more realistic, but Wesnoth is Not Reality (WINR). It would screw up game balance too much. If a unit is weak, it is meant to be weak. The factions try to be as balanced as possible (No faction has an advantage).

mtpathy, you are free to figure out how to do this, and start with the port. People might help you, but don't' expect very much support from the wesnoth development team.

Chaos might be a bit overpowered, and playing once v. the computer just indicates you might need to spend some more time learning how to play the dark elves. Play quite a few games in various matchups, probably saving some replays.

The spear the guy is holding should probably be a bit shorter, and possibly come out behind his legs a little. Currently it looks like he's holding the butt of the spear, and that's odd.

It's coded into the default scenarios. You can make your own scenarios, using the same maps if you want, and have different win/lose conditions. Hardcoded means it's in the C++ coding. When it's WML, all you have to do is open up a text editor, and change a few lines.

you open any wml .cfg file with a text editor, such as wordpad or notepad (wordpad reccomended). Your system already should have one. No download is needed.

Edit: Actually, just post your map and desired labels here, and I'll make a .cfg file (just this once) that you can use as a reference.
