Re: Ideas for a UI facelift
If that doesn't work for technical reasons or something, maybe you could try one combining the shorter height with the longer width.West wrote:Standard window frame + smaller version for dialogs/notices.

Yeah, dagger seems bent to me too. Perhaps it's the angle with respect to the hand, but I can't help but feel like it should come up slightly.

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
First I have to say: damn, TSI, you're really making my jaw drop recently. Just amazing work. However, when it comes to the 'zerker, I find myself wanting to say: "Nice Dockers, dude!" There's just something about those pants that seems off. Not as bad as, say, a Viking wearing sunglasses ...

That blue thing above the top of her four obvious fingers isn't another finger--it's the end of her GI-NORMOUS, double-jointed thumb! :lol2: (Seriously, it looks like it might have been part of the ribbon in the original sketch which then accidentally got colored merskin-color rather than ribbon-col...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
One minor thing that still bugs me: the fine yellow decorative lines on the lord don't seem very metallic. The lack of extreme highlights makes them look, to my eye, flat, rather than reflective like metal--more like mustard from a squeeze-bottle than like gold inlay. It may be more work than it's w...

Re: Terrain tiling is not dead.
(is "cacti" the plural?) Slightly off-topic and a little late, but I wanted to toss this in: there is no "the" plural. Every dictionary I can lay my hands on lists both "cacti" and "cactuses" as plural form s , although they do list "cacti" first, w...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Very minor detail, but since it's two in a row now, I'll comment that I think it's a little odd to have the high levels suddenly become lefties (shield goes in your non-weapon-wielding off hand). NBD, but I just thought I'd toss it out there.

Re: Icons for .exe files [I thought there were none]
A valid point, I suppose--But if you're really worried about it, there are some bigger problems here. You raise an equally valid point, but that's something I hope can be addressed in future, rather than perpetuating the problem and making it worse. :augh: For instance, in the Japanese translation,...

No, the "w"-it's slightly too thin on one side Yes, but how are you going to provide translations for the "B", since "Battle" is an English word? For that matter, for languages like Greek, Hebrew, Russian, Chinese and Korean, you'll have to provide translations for the...

Re: since i don't have an active topic, too - portraits!
your post seems to assume that my troll-whelp is made of stone like a pratchett one Well, I think I was actually inspired to post by this earlier comment more than by the art: i imagine troll-skin behaving exactly the opposite of what you describe: rougher when young and getting smoother with age -...

Re: since i don't have an active topic, too - portraits!
Trolls being made of stone is, IIRC, a Pratchett invention (like female dwarves having beards, although that was retconned into the extended version of the LotR Movie). In Tolkien, the trolls turned into stone in the sunlight, but I don't think it was implied anywhere that they were made of stone (i...

Re: Creeping Biggerism: naga
Indeed, if you consider the fact that they are more-or-less kneeling (insofar as a merbeing can be said to be kneeling), or, more importantly, they look like they're kneeling, I think it goes a long way to explaining why people perceive them as big--and possibly even why they really are big.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
I think part of the problem is simply that that's not a natural way to hold a sword. With a natural grip, the thumb and index finger are always closest to the blade. Turning the grip completely around like that so that the little finger is closest to the blade is simply not a natural (or easy) thing...

Re: Portrait sketches
Yeah, latest sketch of the shooter looks so good, I couldn't complain even if I wanted to! The bow has gone from looking goofy to looking just...vicious. I think the curve's still a bit extreme if you want to aim for realism, but for fantasy art, some hyper-realism is good, sometimes, and ...

Re: Portrait sketches
Foreshortening is what I thought, but it would definitely need some work to make that clear. The hand seems to be at the wrong angle. In any case, the amount of curvature is unrealistic for an undrawn bow--unless, as Neoskel suggests, it's a recurve bow, but that seems somewhat unlikely. Recurve bow...
