"Forward They Cried" uploaded to 1.8 server
I had a single-scenario campaign under both 1.4 and 1.6 I have just uploaded it to the 1.8 server. Since it involves no custom WML, custom units, or custom anything, there is very little to break. The only difference is that any changes to the ai between 1.6 and 1.8 may change the difficulty, but it...

Re: Difference between the wiki and my directory structure
Apparently, the big change is that instead of the "@", we know use the "~", which I finally figured out.

Re: Difference between the wiki and my directory structure
It was actually updated in May, which means it probably included many (but not all) changes made with 1.8zookeeper wrote:Yep, the page (like many similar ones) are just hopelessly out of date.

Re: Scenario difficulty and plot:
For the most part, it is a natural result of developing a campaign. The last scenario of a campaign is going to usually be the most difficult, and it should hopefully tie up the plot threads, as well. Of course, what happens in between can vary quite a bit, but for the most part, campaigns don't hav...

Difference between the wiki and my directory structure
On this wiki page, http://wiki.wesnoth.org/BuildingCampaignsTheCampaignFile When talking about the names and directory structures for campaigns, it refers to a "campaigns" directory. On my installation of 1.8.3, the folder is data/add-ons , not data/campaigns Not that it should make a diff...

Scenario difficulty and plot:
Hello, I have not posted on these forums for a while, but since I have gotten 1.8, I am interested in Wesnoth again. I have realized lately that there is a fairly obvious rule for campaigns, that most designers follow. That is, a scenario's difficulty should be fairly in line with its importance to ...

Re: Wesnoth is actually two separate games.
[acronym=Wesnoth is not a game. It's an engine.]WINAG IAE[/acronym] Wesnoth is an engine, but notice that about 90% of what that engine seems to have been applied to so far is turn based strategy with a fantasy theme. And its not for a lack of trying: we do have Spacenoth, after all. But it seems l...

Wesnoth is actually two separate games.
After having played Wesnoth for six years, and having been on these forums for almost that long, I've realized that: a) Wesnoth is actually two separate games, and b) most of people's complaints about Wesnoth come from them thinking they are playing one of those games when they are actually playing ...

Re: Elvish Lady! (ha-ha, only serious)
Well, like I said: "haha, only serious". And obviously it doesn't matter, since the Elvish Lady is only used as a dummy unit. And maybe she doesn't need to fight because, she guides the Elves with her wisdom. Still, if I could wave a magic wand and give the Elvish Lady some awesome powers,...

Elvish Lady! (ha-ha, only serious)
So someone just posted that the Elvish Lord is highly overpowered...which it is, but of course it is not meant to be a middle-of-the-road unit. I have actually for a long time had the opposite complaint, about the counterpart unit: The Elvish Lady. Its a bit sexist that the Elvish Lord can lay down ...

Well, I will be man enough to admit that if I saw some women cosplaying as anything from the Elvish Shaman line, it would be the high point of my day.

Re: World Conquest NM
One idea I had for World Conquest (and it is just a random idea), is that it would be interesting to spice up the recruit list of both the players and the enemies with some non-faction, but still default units. (Scorpions, Giant Spiders, Wolves, that type of thing...)

Re: Role of Fencers?
I think "RNG Paranoia Shield" should be added to the Wesnoth glossary.Araja wrote:I'm not quite sure you got what we were talking about, our point was that against human players it has a kind of "RNG Paranoia Shield" which can stop people from attacking it.
