Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things
This is a pretty interesting development. Dave, can you expand on what this means? - Importantly, we want to clarify that while wesnoth2 is committed to being a community-driven open source effort we see the benefit of being able to have monetized distribution in some markets. The App Store, for ins...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth
@Doofus-1: I don't know how a "clawback" would work. Probably, Jetrel is free to re-release any sprites that he made under proprietary licenses. And any art that they commissioned, they hold copyrights to. Outside of that I don't think they could. For instance most of the terrain graphics ...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth
I think Iceiceice means that wesnoth-1 and wesnoth-2 would exist in parallel (but nothing can prevent devs from shutting down Wesnoth-1 at every moment because they control all servers, still this wouldnt be a sane step at the current moment of course) Yeah I meant that I think "wesnoth-2"...

Re: Copyfraud in a GitHub project called wesnoth2
Yeah, I agree it's not legal. Dave kinda did the same thing in Argentum Age. In AA though, the wesnoth art is supposed to be placeholder. Not so clear here. If you open an issue on the issue tracker, he might fix it, like he did here: https://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?p=597651#p597651 https:/...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth
Aldarisvet: It was commercialized in the sense that, it was sold on iphone for years and was a top 100 game there for years. Wesnoth is unique because we are trying to build a communism here. Of course it's barely works but still works so that is the object of the interest. +1 I agree that the most ...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth
It should be perhaps mentioned also that "Battle for Wesnoth" has recently been registered legally as a trademark of Wesnoth Inc. 20160808 22:37:03< shadowm> Also, regarding transparency: Wesnoth Inc recently filed a registration claim for the "Wesnoth" trademark. I have no idea ...

doofus-01: I don't know the laws that well, but out of the different sections of 501 c (3) law, I would look at "Social and Recreational Clubs". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501(c)_organization#501.28c.29.287.29 Basically I would suggest to try to organize it as a "hobby club". ...

Re: Loyalists v. Rebels- How do you defeat the Shaman?
Reading what I wrote again: I think the point I was making its that loyalists of have tons of breaking power, so after a point elves are going to have a very hard time to defend. But yeah I don't think it's a sure thing by any means, I don't think it would be on a short list of "most imbalanced...

Re: Loyalists v. Rebels- How do you defeat the Shaman?
Well, think about it. If you have a 30% chance to hit, and you attack twice, the chance that you miss both is 49%. So it's slightly higher (51%) that you hit at least once. If you do hit once, you do something like 25 damage iirc, and even a strong elvish archer only has 34 hp. So after that, one hi...

Re: Loyalists v. Rebels- How do you defeat the Shaman?
Usually I think Loyalists have the advantage in this matchup. It's very, very difficult for the elves ever to attack. Spearmen have a lot of HP, realistically to attack you are going to have to put a bunch of elves on the flat. And then they will just get owned. Horsemen are extremely effective for ...

Re: Wesnoth site and forum security allert.
I am not an expert in security matters, but, the way I understand that it works is that there is a collection of keys that are stored on your system and listed as "trusted" root certificates. You might have several of them from several companies. When your browser wants to verify a signatu...

Re: License question
I feel I have some obligation to try to set some things straight. I'm not suggesting that there was any kind of fraud, or that anyone was misled. I worked on Wesnoth for some years, and later I contributed also to Anura and Argentum Age for some time. Dave is a nice guy, he is smart and makes nice g...

Re: License question
Pent: The reason I said what I said was, there have been some discussions in the past and recently among developers that maybe there should be a proper Wesnoth foundation that people can donate to. Then we could put a big "donate" button on the website, and we might be able to get more mon...
