I've always thought that stealth-type abilities are massively lacking from Wesnoth. (Let's face it, ambush and submerge are rare and nigh on useless.)
Sadly, I don't think this, or anything like it, will happen in mainline.

It makes me sad to see so much good animation work going into a base frame which, while improving, still isn't really up to standard.
