Re: Heir to the Throne: Portraits

Her nose looks wider and flatter in the smiling image, giving a more "robust" look. Even though smiling does affect the nose somewhat, it doesn't work all that well here.

Re: Heir to the Throne: Portraits

Lisar needs to drop thirty or forty pounds ... One of the primary considerations in portraying Lisar is that Konrad finds her attractive. In a quasi-medieval culture thinness would not be considered attractive, because it signals poverty or poor health. Thinness as a beauty ideal is a very modern c...

Re: Jay's portrait WIP thread

A probably wouldn't make the shadows quite so dark. Yeti is associated with snowy and alpine terrains, and reflections from snow creates lot of ambient light. There tends to be hue contrast between shadow and light in winter lighting, which appears strongly on low-saturated surfaces as the white and...

Re: Honey Badger

Frankly, I'm squinting til my eyes hurt, and still see no difference in them.

Here's some reference on how to render animal furs in sprites.

Re: The new Wesnoth logo and the Loyalist sigil

OK, a very quick and dirty, proof-of-concept edit of the "W". Making the counters more symmetric (area may be more critical factor than shape) and reducing the weight of the swash sure made a lot of difference. To make it properly, i will have to do it completely from scratch, this time de...

Re: Honey Badger

It still needs a lot of lighting and texture. You have to make the fur look like fur. As you can see from this image, the fur has lot of texture, because it's a mixture of hair of different colours, lengths and roughnesses. It's not easy on just a few pixels, but without it, it won't work. Also, it'...

Re: What does 9/11 mean to you?

Either way, I still think the country was far more shocked about the attack than it should have been. I have an American friend who lived in Manhattan in 2001, and she said Americans are pansies who can't handle war on their own turf. The thing is, terrorists can't win unless you let them, even if ...

Re: The new Wesnoth logo and the Loyalist sigil

Just to understand your way of working: Your approach is still calligraphic, just trying to create simpler forms but still drawing not constructing the letters? Yes and no. The basic look is supposed to be calligraphic, but technically I'm constructing the letters out of building blocks, much like ...

Re: The new Wesnoth logo and the Loyalist sigil

I feel the bottom shading on the center gold doesn't quite match the shading on the leather to the left. Do you mean that the metal has lots of light while the leather is completely in shadow? The reflective properties of the materials are quite different, and the leather mostly only reflects the p...

Re: The new Wesnoth logo and the Loyalist sigil

I've been experimenting on the font regarding kitty's critique. Here's the "o": wesfont-blackl-2.png The left one is the old one, and the right one the new. I've skewed the outline horizontally 5,5 degrees so that the top point is now to the right of the bottom one. I've also skewed it ver...

Re: The new Wesnoth logo and the Loyalist sigil

I have been reading up on typography myself lately, and I must confess most of your technical points are spot on. On the other hand, your criticism also contains much that simply boils down to differences in personal preference. As your own version illustrates, you clearly have quite different visio...

Re: Heir to the Throne: Portraits

While the sceptre effect is very good otherwise, the colour looks more bloodlike than fire to me. Warmer, more orange shade would work better, I think.

Probably because so far it has only been my own crazy idea, and not endorsed by any of the art devs. Feel free to move it, if you think it would be appropriate. :)

Re: Wesnoth font project

There's no reason why a self-created font couldn't support UTF-8 encoding, or any other. As for language coverage, I already said that I will start with the ASCII set, and extend from there as the translation needs require.

Re: Wesnoth font project

I've started on the ascii set, but the idea is to keep adding characters so that the font satisfies the translation needs. I might try and give a shot at uncial at some point (they could be used as capitals for the Carolingian), but what I would see as completing the "human set" of fonts w...
