here's my opinion on drakes: the average player has a difficult time using them, as mentioned by thrawn. it is easier to counter drakes than to use them. by not using their mobility and excessive daytime damage, you ignore their best qualities. hit/heal could be a good strategy. just don't ignore sa...

although the ghost has impressive resistances, and takes only little damage, you must realize it also deals out little damage. and with 17hp for 20gold, it isn't much to be feared. as with countering them with knalgans, fighters during day (4-3 vs 2-3?), thunderers (7-1), and ulfs to finish them (2-...

I agree the Thunderer shouldn't be changed. One thing I feel about Wesnoth over the past two years is that units have been smoothed out slightly, becoming more like each other. I like the uniqueness of the Thunderer. I agree. the thunderer's "luck" shot is what makes it so original. by mo...

one other thing, that is blatently wrong: put a unit in bad terrain (unless unavoidable) WITHIN REACH of the enemy. i agree with the lawful / chaotic idea as posted by inigo montoya: example: orcish grunt vs spearman day- 7-2 9-3 = 14 damage vs 27 dusk- 9-2 7-3 = 18 damage vs 21 night- 11-2 5-3 = 22...

i personally, think his reasoning is messed up. although i am quite new to the forums, i am NOT new to the game. and with trolls being the backbone of your army, that's a mistake on your part. there are many things i would like to address in this post- they are: trolls are useful for filling only ce...

(he can't :P ) how many games have you played? only 40% win ratio? i feel lik...

alright, maybe i was wrong about the pikeman... but a good counter for the thunderer should be the ulfserker. and the thunderer's 18-1 ranged shouldn't matter- the ulfserker's greater movement means it will attack 1st and should win. (this is suggesting that you weakened the thunderer with fighters ...

with sending units behind lines, it's a nice idea- but with one problem... the map he is talking about, right next to the swamp is a river some 7-8 squares thick, rendering the idea quite useless. the other side of the swamp is the end of the map. :( depending on his race, there are certain ways to ...

In this case, it would probably mean putting a whole bunch of magi to swamp to fry those guardsmen out - not a good idea, since you could expect to kill maybe one of them (with some luck) and your magi would then be dead the next turn. i have seen your map and know your difficulty. the only hope is...

although i play 1.0.2 (i'll download 1.2 when it comes out) the pikeman should have 40% resistance to pierce, nullifying the thunderer's 18-1 ranged,
while (assuming it is a neutral time of day) doing 8-3 and taking only 6-2. If he's on grassland, he's burnt toast.
