Having played HoMM 1/2/3 extensively, I think its AI is very weak, probably because there are so many different variables to balance, such as lots of different resources. To balance the game, there is a high rate of income instead. This is a bit like playing Wesnoth with 10 gold per village per turn...

Here is a small patch to fix a syntax error and some warnings if dot is not available.

Just redid the section on Konrad to match HttT.

Also did some subediting: many typos fixed, shortened some expressions, wrapped very long lines.

Thanks for a nice resource! Having a history like this is great for inspiring campaign authors to fill in the holes in the story.

Just to stir the pot some more, I hate the Cavalryman and Crossbowman names, but couldn't care less about the use of Elf/Elvish/Elven or Dwarf/Dwarvish/Dwarven. What was wrong with Cavalry and Crossbow, anyway? I hardly see an Orc as being in any way a man, whether male or female. And Cavalry is a p...

If you want to use server side stats, you need to take into account cost of the units. Instead of number of units recruited, rather use the amount of gold spent on a given type of unit: someone recruiting 200 Walking Corpses at 5gp each does not necessarily mean they should be made more expensive co...

With 0.8.7 HttT seems to have become much harder on Hard, with huge swings in damage away from expected values (eg. 50% over EV for both dealt and taken over several scenarios). It's probably just me having a rough time with the random number generator, or with AI improvements from 0.8.5, but save/l...

My vote goes to window mode with a dialog box asking about fullscreen mode, including an option not to ask again. This used to be pretty standard on MacOS games (back in pre-OSX days) and worked well as a compromise between reducing the impact of showstopper glitches but still making available bette...

Finally, an 0.8.5 Hard replay for Crelanu's Book that I can actually replay. This one starts with 1059 gold, and ends with 1203 after the 80% adjustment. I think with the new 18hp Walking Corpses, this scenario needs to be made tougher in Hard. Notice how the 72 zombies (2 castles full) easily take ...

Another 0.8.5 replay for Confrontation on Hard, starting gold 1171, ending gold after 80% reduction is 948. This one replays fine on my system. Mostly Walking Corpses are recruited, as well as a few bats and a force of Dark Adepts for firepower. Again, Gwiti barely makes it out alive while sacrifici...

Please be careful with your WML: campaigns can create new units that bleed into existing campaigns, and who knows what other kinds of fun stuff can happen. See http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=48179#48179 and http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=48307#48307 for an example. Anyone...

With the campaign server version of Mystery downloaded today (23-Oct-2004), playing the campaign on 0.8.5 and then trying to reload an Autosave, saw 66 of the following warnings: line 7560: WARNING: square bracket found in string. Is this a run-away string? all apparently relating to lines in the sa...
