Re: campaigns stored as zip files?

Never store anything in binary that could be in text! Did you mean "Never store anything in an obscure/inaccesible format that could be in something standard and easy to manipulate" ? If so I agree :) I think text-inside-zip is a pretty easy to deal with outside Wesnoth, and is therefore ...

And when they do include a compiler, they leave out the library headers so you can't compile anything anyway. :(
(I recently ranted about this on the Freeciv forum...)

Or you might have an older version, in which case you'll need to upgrade.

Try typing:

Code: Select all

gcc -v
BTW what distribution are you using?

My concern with this idea is that it would be hostile to new players. Imagine it's your first online game: You don't have a recall list. Your opponent does. They pound you. Your next game: You don't have a recall list because you lost the last game. Your opponent does. They pound you. Repeat....

So, bonuses and penalties should be separated and handled differently?

meaning the damage increase for -20% resistance may be quite different from the damage decrease from 20% resistance?

I presume boni is the plural of bonus

So bogus/bogi must be the opposite.

But I thought the opposite of bonus was malus...

Do any of the campaign authors have versions of their campaigns that work with 0.8 laying around? If so, it might be nice to put them up on a wiki page or something. Version 0.8 was promoted as the stable release and there might be quite a few people it this position.

having 0 upkeep is not a special rule. it is the natural result of the level=upkeep rule. special rules are MUCH different from rules that result in certain units being unique. Yes, of course. I wasn't very clear. I was trying to say that the level=upkeep rule results in level 0 units being _very_ ...

I like this option:
Darth Fool wrote:6) Attacking 0-level units do not cause you to lose your attack if you have any movement left, but you lose 1 movement.
I don't think special rules for level-0 units is a problem, since having no upkeep is pretty special already.

Yes, I agree the game is hard. I haven't even tried medium yet - easy is challenging enough for me.

I thought the idea behind implicit magic was that the game does it for you so Dave doesn't have to create a new UI to do it. :) (and, more to the point, the game stays easy to use) I think my example qualifies, since you wouldn't have to choose (or know about) a 'create golem' option, it would just ...

'No explicit magic' means you don't explictly do something to use magic - it works automatically. Like always curing nearby units or being just another thing to attack with. In a campaign a golem unit wouldn't need explicit magic - For example one way would be to use WML to make it appear when its m...
