Re: Terrain

This is a stone encampment for when a human crafted castle-type thing doesn't look appropriate, like for trolls. I don't plan on making a second level, it is just like the tent & wooden fence encampment. I fiddled with the levels at the last minute and now it is too sprite-like, but other than ...

Re: Eleazar's Terrain Improvements

On a similar note, I think the fuzzy sand/water transition is nice too, and hope that stays. If you are trying to cut down on transition templates, could sand/water & dirt/swamp use the same one? No, that's my cheap hack. It's gonna look something like this instead: sand-to-water.jpg I don't kn...

Re: Comment on Eleazar's Terrain Improvements or other threa

Volcano-to-water should be fixed now. Granted there are speed issues, but once the whole map loads (i.e. once you have scrolled over the whole thing) it scrolls as fast as i could wish. I have a 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo, which isn't junk, but it's certainly not top notch. Are you guys using 1.9.1? It's a lo...

Re: Eleazar's Terrain Improvements

Finally i'm getting to the Hill and Mountain transitions to water. I suddenly figured out how to do it this evening, and now it is mostly done. The similarity to the flat-to-water transitions are intentional. This means a single set of lapping wave animations will fit both. Note hills and mountains ...

Re: Eleazar's Terrain Improvements

A minor little change, but the kind of thing we should do more of.

The chasm bridge now is a single terrain in the editor palette, It will automatically choose the right variant weather it is placed over chasm, lava, or water.
Thanks to zookeeper for doing most of this.

Re: Comment on Eleazar's Terrain Improvements or other threa

I think there are some images assigned to the keep that are from the sand castle. Edit: also reproducible with elven keep, the snowy keep of the orcs and the sand castle keeps. Edit2: the normal paved cave wall and the one with the nicely animated torch look the same at the editor selection menu. I...

Re: Comment on Eleazar's Terrain Improvements or other threa

At you shot in the restricted thread, I think I found two more things: One mysterious line and the bridge overlaying the castle which makes it looking like the bridge directly offers invaders way into the castle, thus the castle-walls are futile. :lol2: Since the graphics weren't made to fit with e...

Re: Open Source and Capitalism

In any case, the traditional model of selling software as products won't do. When the product can be easily obtained for free, it's kinda hard to convince someone to pay for it. Not to underplay the challenge, but piracy and open-source alternatives, haven't quite killed commercial software yet. In...

Because it's drawn at the wrong angle.

Re: Thou shalt get terrain art.

A bad craftsman blames his tools. I'd be shocked if Eleazar ISN'T using Photoshop. Yep, I love my Photoshop. Jetrel uses it too and some of our other terrain contributors. What he's trying to find is the Pencil tool for pixel-perfect pixels, but that's generally not what you should be using for ter...

Re: Eleazar's Terrain Improvements

I took things a step further and now you can blend any non-dwarvish castle or keep together. Of course this often will look bad due to the art not lining up, but at least it fails more gracefully than it used to. Encampment combined with other castle types works best-- with anything else there are n...

Re: Eleazar's Terrain Improvements

We'll i've at least partially cracked a problem that's been bothering me. Encampments can now be mixed with all human and elvish castles without leaving huge gaps in the walls, or getting extra walls where they don't belong. This should add some interesting possibilities for making ruined-but-partia...

Re: Comment on Eleazar's Terrain Improvements or other threa

What I wanted to point out wasn't the red shining but the hex-silhouette that was made more easy to spot with the red shining. It's still there. Yeah, that one requires a reworking of the lava chasm, something i'd like to do, but may not get around to. Is it possible to make the smoke optional as e...

Re: stone bridge

(...)As for the chasm bridge i didn't notice that it was done -- or saw it when my mind was full of something else and promptly forgot. I'll see about adding it. Same WML as the simple stone bridge? No, unfortunately the chasm bridge has a WML problem all of its own. As described here http://forums...
