Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things

Just for the record, and this may not be something you care about, but (mainline) art assets under CC-BY-SA-NC or with any other sort of non-commercial clause will also effectively prevent distribution by a bunch of Linux distributions (definitely Fedora), as non-commercial clauses are considered b...

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things

Suppose I wanted to make something more like, a Wesnoth-themed version of Heroes of Might and Magic but with a better AI than either. (Not saying I'm actually going to do that :-p) Under the current Wesnoth licensing setup, I'm pretty sure that I can make a game like that and distribute it for free...

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things

I think your reasoning is in general quite sound, though I don't see why art should be considered differently from code. Most importantly though I think using "-NC" licenses is not a good idea, as it has been ruled in Germany to mean that only personal use is possible, so at least in some countries...

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things

Wesnoth has survived for years just fine with GPL licensing and each author retaining copyright. And afaik our distributions on the apple App store were legal. It's somewhat unusual to ask people to assign copyright for work that they do for free -- that's usually only done when someone is a paid p...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth

Also incidentally, we are looking for a new coder to help port Wesnoth to iOS. If anyone is interested or knows somebody who is interested please let me know. The iOS port is badly out of date at this point and someone with those skills would be very much appreciated. What about the people who have...

ForestDragon wrote:neat idea! btw, is making addons going to be still in WML (but with the ability to create new mechanics like you said)?
We will have add-ons but with a new language/system for implementing them, which will be more flexible than WML.

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things

Neat, thanks for posting this. The default gameplay sounds like it would be somewhat more interesting than current wesnoth, with the extra mechanics, though assuming modding (or a setting) allows it the first thing I do will be disabling critical chance. Getting unlucky misses or an enemy getting l...

Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things

For some time now, myself and a few other developers have been working off-and-on on a project we are calling "wesnoth2". Normally I don't like to discuss projects I work on when they are still in a fairly speculative phase, because many projects in this phase end up not working out, and I do not li...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth

While you're here though, what is the plan/intention for wesnoth2? I have tried to minimize the discussion regarding wesnoth2 so far because it is experimental and I have done a lot of experiments and prototypes of projects over the years which don't pan out. I hate talking about my projects before...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth

Creative control - to be able to work on something without having to constantly argue with people over why you're writing the story a certain way, or adjusting the stats a certain way, etc - I'm sick to death of fighting with people when I'm doing completely gratis work. It's why my small trickle o...

Re: Donating to Battle for Wesnoth

I just thought i would clear a few things up: In contrast to their previous project, The Battle for Wesnoth, the Frogatto team did development as a small centralized team, with the intention of building a solid engine and a game to showcase that engine, before trying to build a community around the ...

Re: My latest project -- a digital collectible card game

I opened the app and got this message: Is this with an existing account you have played with before? It sounds like it didn't automatically download the latest version of the game for you. Can you try several more times and see if it manages to download the latest version for you and should work af...

Yes, the correct link is now http://theargentlark.com I am having a problem accessing the website. This is what I get when going to it: "It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet." Sorry I gave the wrong link. The c...
