Re: Launching the game

We'll need to know which hardware and operating system you're using, which version of Wesnoth you're running and the exact text of the error message.

Re: Increase multiplayer numbers?

Here's how things get done in almost any open project: If it's important enough to you, create a discussion thread. If it's not that important, you have no right to complain that nobody else wants to take on the idea/project. Sure, it's nice to have an idea which you can't do and find someone who lo...

Re: Trait Suggestions

Get enough people to use the flying mod. Start a forum discussion about how it improves the mainline campaigns and multi-player games, get feedback from other players, and improve the mod based upon that feedback. Then get a team member who is willing to squire it into mainline. Note that such chang...

Re: Trait Suggestions

Flying sounds like a good idea. It needs to be done as an add-on for testing. I expect the Bat units would needs a bit of adjustment to compensate for their becoming invulnerable to melee attack, and to be sure that all counter-attacks use ranged weapons.

Also, there are web-based tools to encode the password. Its been a couple years so I forget which I used when working on the new password hashing. I just copy-and-pasted the results into the INSERT and recreated the entire database. It would not take much, though, to do a little account creator/pass...

Re: Wiki images perpetually broken

I did a random check on the Wiki area you linked to, and, yes, some of the images come up as 404-not found. I didn't see any links to photobucket or other such sites. There is not much we can do about images off-site. The OP for the image chose to place it there and we should respect that. Perhaps t...

Re: Would it be OK to publish an era that uses sprites for units from a 1995 SNES game?

As a general rule, to my lay understanding: Trademarks must be defended or they will be lost. Copytrights, however, exist simply from the act of creation of a work of original authorship, and persist until their time expires. You gain added protections for registing them, but this is not required. P...

Re: Would it be OK to publish an era that uses sprites for units from a 1995 SNES game?

It's not the display of the image, it's the publication of it as part of the distribution.

Now, if you can do a UMC which includes no images, but links to the SNES images, you might have a chance.

Re: How long did it take to program the engine of wesnoth until it worked? How many worked on it?

The answer to your question is sort of slippery. What constitues "written"? Most programs like this start off rather small and quickly develop into a proof-of-concept, usually written by just one or two people, then expand to a small group of for comments, many of whom will help. The timing of this ...

Re: Would it be OK to publish an era that uses sprites for units from a 1995 SNES game?

A tribute, if done properly, or user-supported documentation, would almost certainly fall under the Fair Use Doctrine as being commentary about the work, with exanples to show the point. One might be able to claim that that site is, in a way, nothing but a tribute to the artwork. That is, until they...

Re: Would it be OK to publish an era that uses sprites for units from a 1995 SNES game?

Their FAQ is self-serving and misleading. I'll translate it ... According to their FAQ, all those images are illegal: they stole them, and admit they created the site so you can, too. They seem to be suffering from the dillusion that it's legal to steal these images, so long as you don't charge for ...

I was bad enough waiting for the KSR-33 to type out the Star Trek local quadrant. The thought of all that clattering and clanking printing out a Wesnoth map after every turn ... no, just no.

Re: .ogg files with Windows 10 version 1903

I had the problem as well. But .ogg files are not important to me so I shrugged and move on to other things. One site says it's solved, btw. Don't know and not really interested enough to find out.

Re: Optional player's rating

I like the idea of a cooling-off period. It won't make it impossible, but it will make it quite a hassle to get the botnet properly programmed and running. must be registered on the Forums (hence registered on the MP servers). must be at least 30 days since registering (cooling off a bot). must enab...
