Good reading about professional art direction

I would consider this a "must read" for anybody doing game art on a professional level.

Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS

Awesome Naga and Elyssa! Maybe we should disallow the silver mage upgrade for her in the campaign?

Great Melusand (apart from my issues with the pose itself)!

I look forward to see how the cutting/cropping will be done!

Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS

Ok third try! The pose looks passiv to me. For me it does not look like she is ruling or leading. The posture looks like dreaming, divining or down or defeated. It looks passive to me. I would perceive the character active. I recommend to look at some videos of Maggy Thatcher to get the idea of a la...

Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS

Wasn't that lady some kind of ruler? Would be nice if the picture convays age and wisdom and determination. This one appears more like an oracle to me.

But as always, what ever you decide is best.

Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS

Please keep in mind that I am always voicing suggestions. If I do not know what is not posted, than it is not my fault . So if you think that these are demands, please think again and consider the possibility that these are merely suggestions. I would recommend Elyssa in 3 versions. Maybe the red ma...

Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS

About Elyssa: Hurray! Please make cloth variants for silver and great mage line! You could start her with a reddish dress which moves to grey or brown accordingly. Some added silver or golden bling would do nicely! Maybe some staff variations? Maybe hold the staff in the left hand for level 3 and le...

Re: Using old unused mainline art in UMC content

It still can be used for UMC according to the concept of open source! Especially old ones, where the characters are not recognizeable, would not even lead to confusion. There are nice nature, castle, battle, ship pictures in there. I would say: Salvage what you can! Keep in mind that you can crop th...

Maybe an WIP update? Worst thing what could happen is some feedback.

Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS

It's close enough. Please, let's not badger him. Thanks. Please understand that I only have trust in the master himself to decide if "it" is close enough to a perceived center line. Here are LordBob's words on the pattern of the mask ("it"?). It looked to me that he was not convinced himself. ...I ...

Re: OGL Open Game Licence

Well you can use it for "Whatever it is". (This is a citation!). They ramble in great length on not to abuse logos and covers. They do not mention any of their art pieces. There are versions on the net, where somebody used a recolor for the skin tone. So that should be save. I did some in game testi...

Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS

... At the current pace of art production it's going to be a looooooooooong time before the balance naturally tips towards "no line", same goes for "full body". Also, full body opens a whole new can of worms where we have to decide how to display them in dialogs and how to mix them with cropped por...

Re: OGL Open Game Licence

... "No because the right to modify is specifically withheld, which is something that's expected for Wesnoth's community"... This is the interesting bit. They are very careful to not allow the Paizo logos and cover pages to be recolored or distorted. That actually means to me: The art could be crop...

Re: OGL Open Game Licence

That is very true! So here is my current understanding: Basically I would say you could use it for a campaign under the phrase "or whatever it is" by putting the disclaimer into the campaign description. Than you could publish the campaign somewhere and link it on the paizo forum. So they would be o...

Re: OGL Open Game Licence

.. This leads to 2 questions for me: 1st: Are they really allowing me to use their art for non commercial work just for giving them credit as I see fit? 2nd: What would Wesnoth need to consider to decide if this art would be allowed on the add-on server for user made content? ... Thank you so much ...
