To be honest initially my idea was ti give one extra shoot to the Unit with the talented trait, but that would completely screw up the game balance.
So I changed It in something less drastical.

Yes they have similar roles, in fact Rebels could and in fact play well without mages, even in the default era.
I saw Elves defeating undeads kindaeasly with only Duids, Woses, Archers, Horses and Fighters.

I noticed that various players have trouble when they have Loyals anf face an Undead player that spams skeleton archers, cause they are cheaper. now considering that time ago the archer was nerfed and his cost reduced by one GP, why not doing the same with the HI and reduce also his recruiting cost ...

I don't find this era so crazily unbalanced, I had some nice and smoth games using this era, but the units prices have to change for sure (the Rogue for example is way to cheap considering his abilities over his lv.1 counterpart), to begin any balancing attempt.
