Re: What are you playing right now? (Games)

I have recently downloaded Glest and am enjoying it very much; however, I will probably download some new maps / mods, as two factions and a rather small number of maps don't provide endless fun (for me, at least). However, the rest is good; music could probably be improved, but graphics aren't bad ...

Re: Questions of Death

I wonder if a Lich could live a third time, since his soul was strong enough to forcibly put itself back in its own body. I don't see why not as long as it's body can be recovered and the soul discovered, however it might require the influence of another skilled necromancer to re-conjure a previous...

Re: Putting wesnoth on a mem stick

As Crushmaster and Zachron said, running Wesnoth on a memory stick works fine; I myself played Wesnoth from a memory stick for about two years and never encountered any problems. You should select "Save userdata in install location" during your installation; this way, your savegames and ad...

Re: An idea of a tournament.

I would happily take a slot, even under the current conditions, but, as pointed out before - 32 players is too much, 8 or 16 would suffice in my opinion. In addition, I don't think single elimination is a bad thing. Luck will usually not knock out a player clearly stronger than his opponent, and, ev...

Re: The Origin of (Wesnoth) Species, or: Half-Breeds in Wesn

I think that impact damage cannot be deflected well by armour simply because impact does not need to penetrate through armour to deal damage. You can break your arm without damaging skin and flesh or at least without breaking skin and flesh; surely this must work with trolls again. It's possible to ...

Re: What are you reading right now?

It's themes are kind of adult-based. Not the kind of story you would want to read to your kids. Still, I'm 15 and I love them. The story is very intricate, and the chapters have a very unique style... You also need a good memory, there are a couple hundred people at least that are moderately import...

Re: The Belonian Way [first steps] Campaign

First, I would like to agree with the person who posted above me; WML is really not that challenging, and, to be honest, I think good campaign design, art etc. will take up more time than the coding. However, I would consider helping you with this if you think you could still not learn WML; notify m...

Re: Spirits Giving Form.

I think that a non-thinking spirit that is simply drawn to an element would fit the following theory - creatures in Wesnoth and surrounding lands being alive and sentient, but not possesing any magical ability. Then, the spirits are less creators of life or at least animators/life-bringing beings, b...

I am about to go down to the bookshop to order the first part of Song of Ice and Fire. I hope it will be as enjoyable as everyone says it is.

Re: Spirits Giving Form.

I don't see a need for scientific explanations following the laws of our world in a world where magic and (possibly) different physical laws exist. I'm not saying that everything in wesnoth has to be different than it is here, but it doesn't have to be strictly scientifically correct. Personally, I ...

Re: Spirits Giving Form.

It's all evolution. The difference is natural selection vs. artificial selection. So yes, artificial selection often results in traits that would be unfavorable but are desired by the controllers, such as the size of a bulldog's head causing problems with birth, and chihuahuas being utterly detesta...

Re: Spirits Giving Form.

Evolution is the survival of those that survive. It doesn't matter why. Without us around it tends to be related to fitness, but even that's not a given. My point was more that manipulated evolution often has different aims than natural evolution, not that it is not evolution at all. Sorry for not ...

Re: The Origin of (Wesnoth) Species, or: Half-Breeds in Wesn

The vampire lady on the island? she's pretty Sponge Bob! So vampire Elves, yes, vampire Dwarves? (probalby not, they eat tons of garlic) also, there is so much fuss about Elf-Human hybrids, but nothing mentioned about Dwarf-Human hybrids. I think these are more likely. Elvish males are tall...
