Re: General tip: Consider not drawing eyes
With any kind of art, the general guideline is more "does it look/sound/feel good/right", rather then "logic and theory dictate it should be this way". In this case, my artistic sense tells me that eye-less versions look worse. Maybe yours doesn't, I dunno. In that case, we'd hav...

Re: Thinking up names
I usually try to identify a few defining characteristics for the place/character I am trying to name, then pick a name with a related meaning, either from real names, words in other languages, mythology, etc.

Re: Metal for Wesnoth
Well composing anything is hard work. Creating anything is hard work. When you have a finished result, you may not want anybody to mess with it, just because to you it's defiling of your hard work. You may not agree with TimothyP's philosophy, but I think you should respect it. He worked hard to mak...

Re: Newbie question
Well, it is not sure that lv2s and up's prices are balanced, so maybe age of Heroes is unbalanced. Anyway, aside from the occasionnal lv2 recruit with a useful ability (leadership?), you mostly want to recruit lv1s, as you'll be able to cover more ground and have more meat shields.

Re: What opportunities for humanlike/role-playing AI in Wesn
I think the idea has a lot of potential and is very interesting. Since it's kicking ideas around, let me contribute a bit. I think taking a purely RPG-ish approach and building the AI around individual units might be overdoing it a bit and not fitting Wesnoth. How would you even determine that unit ...

Re: Favorite / least favorite mainline race
huh... Weren't Tolkien's Dwarves more modeled after the scots? :hmm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_(Middle-earth)#The_Hobbit Overall, Tolkien's Dwarves seem like Askenazi Jews. Mixture of Germanic and Semitic qualities e.g. they use names like "Thorin" with everyone else. A lot of th...

Re: Ageless II
Well Johnny Nowesenoth can just hit ctrl+f and type "Elementals" to see if they're there and if so, in which era. You can even put a word to that effect at the start of your original post if you worry he wouldn't think of it. And I'm talking mostly for this thread, not necessarily for the ...

Re: Ageless II
For the sake of keeping all add-ons updated and having a more comprehensive list, I think your factions list should be sorted by eras, and not alphabetically, all eras together... It could even be an easier way to give credit to the respective authors and link to the appropriate threads. Something l...

Re: Problem with Deus Shift, or how to attract and keep play
Well, for starters, there is not much single player. And what seems to be the worst offender to me is that I kept selecting a unit to see stats or stuff, deciding "nah, this unit is fine where it is" and then clicking another... and end up swapping them or attacking or whatever. Insanely f...

Re: Ageless Era - Current Version: 4.10
Why ever would you think changing the negative numbers for positives would be helpful? On the point of fogofgold's take on "ageless era", I always thought his way of doing it was both more simple maintenance-wise and also possibly more honest to the original UMC devs. Optionally, the descr...

Re: Making ghouls better
Well, the ghoul has poison and can actually tank some damage, which is a must-have for undead. They're plenty useful already... And low-mobility is one of the perks and challenges of undeads... Should all units have special abilities or weapon specials? Do you consider the spearman or orcish grunt t...

Re: The problems I have with Wesnoth
My opinion is that you have not seriously read with an open mind any of what was replied to you, Great_Mage_Atari, and just stuck to your original idea. If the forum was as you say, you would have been muted and/or ridiculed long ago. Which you were not, in case you hadn't notice. I wrote and rewrot...
