Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: 4player Map Contest and Overhaul!

At the moment it's looking like I won't be removing maps. Oh, so... there's no contest after all? As for that map: What are the teams supposed to be? My instincts tell me that they should be 1/3 vs 2/4 but this one looks like it could be intended to play either way. The revised version looks pretty...

Re: Good playing habits and settings each turn

Planning mode is incredibly arcane and does very little that delay shroud doesn't do. In MP I use accel x 16, skip attacks, no animations, grid on, no unit sounds, and delay shroud updates unless I want to scout with a bat or something. EDIT: That being said, Wesnoth is a game. Don't let anyone sham...

Re: Simplified Wesnoth Board Game

Okay, that actually really struck a chord with me as someone who plays board games at a game shop every Saturday and Tuesday night. I get that. You'd rather play Wesnoth online than other board games and you'd rather play other games in person than Wesnoth. I see; fair enough.

Re: Simplified Wesnoth Board Game

If I were to do wesnoth as a board game I wouldn't use a point buy system. The cards are so that you can keep track of multiple units of the same type. Ah, I see... I thought it was some sort of recruitment mechanic. I feel that Wesnoth is much closer to a miniatures game and, for that reason, it w...

Re: Simplified Wesnoth Board Game

Depends on what you mean by 'miniatures' game. If it has a hex grid board then it's not in the traditional form for a steryotypical 'Tabletop Miniature Wargame'. Miniatures games on the lighter end of the spectrum tend to use hexes. Exemplis gratis; Heroclix. And he did say that this would be simpl...

Re: Simplified Wesnoth Board Game

Would this not essentially just be a miniatures game?

Re: Introduce yourself here!

I've been playing Wesnoth since 1.2. I had no idea this thread was a thing til today. I'm UK1, I go by Ukraneean on the multiplayer server. I don't like dogs; cats are okay. I like to chat and if you don't like that; don't listen *shrug*. I like to play undead because skeletons, ghouls, zombies, and...

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: 4player Map Contest and Overhaul!

Hey, if I could get some feedback on this map before I start doing hardcore testing, it would be much appreciated. Essentially, the idea is that sides 1 and 2 are predisposed towards offensive capability because their terrain and placement of natural villages affords them an ability to concentrate t...

Re: Experience as a secondary Resource

I can add to Velensk's examples, if you like, of how it would turn contemporary Wesnothian thought on its head and cause us all to have to change our tactics entirely. As it stands, it is a valid, if unorthodox, tactic to suicide weak units against entrenched units to get in one or two extra hits in...

Re: Bowmen should be revisited ?

I disagree on multiple levels. I not only think that bowmen should not be buffed because it's fine for a unit to not be decent for every situation, but I also think that bowmen are okay for a first recruit. They're good to get for a loyalist mirror match or if you're up against drakes. They're also ...

Re: Secrets of the Ancients: New Undead Campaign

I just want to say thank you for being a part of the community and for contributing what looks like it's going to be an excellent campaign. I'm glad you are at least mostly enjoying it. About Bandits: I did design it to be beatable legitimately. I always do most of my fighting near the village sout...

Re: Secrets of the Ancients: New Undead Campaign

Alright, I did play what was finished through on the difficult setting. I got kind of shafted by luck several times and was unable to beat it without reloading. It basically went like, "Wow, 9/10 strikes missed on 60%? I think not ." I think it's incredibly challenging, but manageable. I really like...

Re: Steam Greenlight #2

Sure! We can give your avatar (which you don’t presently have) a glasses overlay and the forum title “I was playing Wesnoth before it was popular”! Otherwise I don’t think the idea makes much sense, its vagueness notwithstanding. By the description you gave of what I said, it almost sounds like I w...

Re: Steam Greenlight #2

Can we grant special privileges to Pre-Steam players? I always wanted to be part of an aristocracy. Who wants to marry my daughter?

Re: Secrets of the Ancients: New Undead Campaign

As a very vocal proponent of undead since 1.4, I'm glad to see they're getting another campaign.

@Velensk: I loved all of your campaigns. Where can I find your new one?
