Re: What do you find to be the worst unit in the default era

The fish hunter i picked elves on weldyn to look for myself if theres something i might have overlooked by saying the hunter is a weak unit. this is the result: two times i could not place my hunter on a better field than 50% (or else i got attacked melee by other units) and then 3 nagini hunted on...

Re: Do you need help in multiplayer 1v1?

I don't play 1 vs 1's except on very rare occasions against my cousin, but I shall follow this thread to see what else I can learn.

Re: What do you find to be the worst unit in the default era

Well I have a bias against level 0 units because of them having such little health and no ZoC. It's difficult to say though. Goblin Spearman has a good attack, Walking Corpse has plague. However, I probably still say the walking corpse. To use plague you have to get kills, thus feeding it XP. At lev...

Re: Is a red mage worth it early in HttT?

Shamans aren't so hard to level up as it first appears at times. They seem to often make tempting targets for enemy AI even when in forest where their high defense means they can survive fairly easily. I quite like using slow as well especially against strong enemies (lvl 2 and above!) and the fligh...

Re: Best and Worst MAINLINE campaigns and scenarios

Favourite scenario: The Sceptre of Fire in the Heir to the Throne campaign. Nice randomised underground map. Having been trying to get there on medium difficulty in 1.10 (had previously finished the campaign in 1.8 (at least I think it was 1.8) on medium difficulty) but I'm overprotective of my unit...

Is there a way to recover accidentally deleted saves?

Hi guys I'm wondering if there's a way to recover accidentally deleted saves. I had disabled the "ask before delete" option or whatever it's called but occasionally my mouse double clicks itself so I accidentally deleted the level start save on Siege of Elensefar on what by my standards is a very go...

Re: Is a red mage worth it early in HttT?

The reason that we would want mages instead of shamans is for their health and early magical attacks. Shamans have lower health than mages, and no magical attacks. Mages have magical attacks, giving them a bonus for ranged attacks. Since in the short term of a battle, for mor damage output means mo...

Re: Cities of the Frontier (aka sim-Wesnoth)

This campaign has so much potential, but unfortunately it seems unlikely to come to fruition. Esci (the creator) hasn't even visited the site since May.

Re: Is a red mage worth it early in HttT?

The red mage is probably the most versatatle mage in the whole game. He is equally effective against undead as he is against humans. Considering that during most of the campaign, you fight humans rather than undead, the redmage is the better choice. As for the arch/silver mage choice, i would think...

Re: What do you find to be the worst unit in the default era

I used to hate poachers too, but they have a few advantages over bowmen and indeed most other archers (apart from elvish archers): 4 strikes compared to 3 for bowman gives better ctk against 1 or 2HP units. Relatively few XP required to level up. 2 different levelling choices upon reaching level 3....

Re: Unit advancement strategies

I can see the points you both make. I realised earlier when playing through another level, if I levelled all the quick, non strong fighters I had (about 3 or 4) to captain then I wouldn't need all of them anyway! The same with marksman, I already have 1, but that is probably all I will need througho...

Unit advancement strategies

Hi guys I was just wondering what kind of unit advancement strategies everyone else uses. I tend to generally advance units according to their traits regardless of if they gain abilities if I were to give them another advancement. For example, using the HttT campaign I have just started, by some ver...

Re: New unit or near level unit?

My planned was to get several level 2 units on the 1st and 2nd scene than train 2 archmage and a mage of light on the later scenes for elensefar I'd say a druid is probably better than an MOL although it isn't so good against undead. However you can probably get a few kills against the orcs to get ...

Re: New unit or near level unit?

An interesting strategy for that level, but I can see why it would work due to the brown elves sending almost all their units north and stealing your kills most of the time. On the whole I try to level units, but it is generally better to save levelling for later scenarios except for needed abilitie...
