Re: How to play - Undeads vs Drakes - Huumy

@Doc Paterson: well, this "non-native English speaker" did the same mistake. :P On topic: Ok, now I'm convinced. Skirmishers are a critical unit for drakes in this match-up. If undead will continually use their s.archer/ghost/ghouls ZoC and resistances to make a hard to break ZoC wall, the...

Re: New animations

Did some quick modifications to that last one (hope you don't mind :)): Spear Man Attack Anim.mod.gif Deleted frame 4 (in GIF) and then sped up a bit the first 3 frames (80ms duration). Deleted motion blur from frame 9-10 and moved frame 9-11 two frames back. In the new frame I pasted the frame 8 tw...

Re: How to play - Undeads vs Drakes - Huumy

I've seen two basic recruit styles used by Undead vs Drake. One is heavy on ghosts/adepts with the occasional bat. Like this they are quite speedy (66% of adepts are quick and ghosts naturally have good movepoints/movetype). At nights ghost can attack drakes with impunity pretty much (burners would ...

Re: New animations

I think that it looks best when motion blur forms during the motion only and dissipates almost instantly (ie: 1 intermediate frame with very little motion blur left) upon impact. When I coded (ie. edited cfg file for new animation frames) the new saurian skirm anims into my wesnoth copy, such a moti...

Re: This game.

My reaction after losing a game: me: "woot another one for the collection" *uploads replay to ladder site* me: "wanna play another?" (to my opponent) Every game is a learning experience, win/loss/whatever. It's all the same really. I'll keep playing Wesnoth and having fun doing so.

Re: New animations

Is it me or he seems to be stabbing twice? :hmm: The motion blur when he first points the spear forward makes it seem so. Also, you should probably use the motion blur exclusively for the actual stabbing motion. For example, in this post: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=436199#p436199 A...

Re: This game.

My advice: Don't put too much emphasis on winning. Have fun if you win, have fun if you lose.

Either way, you're playing the game you like, learning and having fun. That's what is important.

Oh, and play drakes, they're awesome. :P

Re: Various WML questions about Terrain

Question: Would it be possible to have a command in Wesnoth to dump a huge list with all the images used to render the currently displayed playing field? (in layering order perhaps)

Would be a great tool to debug terrain layering.

Re: Mages like to weak next to other magical units.

Funny how the Augur has been completely left out of the discussion. Actually, there are several OP units on different factions when you start comparing then 1-to-1. Then again, those factions are supposed to use and abuse those units to have an even fight against the rest. If you ask me, I al...

Re: Defence strategies? (for the AI)

Yeah, I was thinking something like that. The thing is that although a single enemy may be able to reach many hexes, it can only move to one of those in a turn. In general it might make hexes seem more dangerous than they really are. Probably we might want to avoid "slow but accurate". Eve...

Re: Mages like to weak next to other magical units.

Maybe the only thing that bothers about DAs is that 66% are resilient. And if they are not, then they are quick/intelligent for sure. :annoyed:

3 traits = three combinations
4 traits = six combinations

Three traits is just too little.

Re: Defence strategies? (for the AI)

I'm mostly a (learning) MP player. So I'm just gonna post some concepts I've learned thru experience. Firstly, hex reachability is very important, in more ways than one. For example, terrain defense is irrelevant if the enemy can't reach you. Or taking further, it is irrelevant if the enemy is unlik...

Re: Turn Limit - Can it be turned off?

Simple solution for a campaign without turn limit: max gold carry over and max number of units that can go to recall list. If the gold maximum is exceeded, the carry over gold gets reduced to the limit only. The tricky part is how to deal with units, probably a dialog on scenario end that allows to ...
