Re: Funny forum memories.

This is mostly true. It'd be more true if you replace "want to be so polite" with "want to be lazier". :eng: I'm not sure I know what you mean. I can't say for slavic languages and such, but in french, you have the pronoun "tu" which is singular-you (non-polite), and the plural "vous" which can be ...

Re: Funny forum memories.

Actually in most slovian languages, and I think in other too, you address second person in plural, to show respect or simply to be polite. Looks like in England people want to be so polite, they removed singular form of you. This is mostly true. It'd be more true if you replace "want to be so polit...

Re: Prosilver or Subsilver2?

Switched back to subsilver2 and it's a little like coming home again. Maybe prosilver se is the future, and maybe 9 out of 10 users in their focus group find that the quote button at the top of the post instead of the bottom is more intuitive, aesthetically pleasing and ergonomically whatever, but ...

Re: Prosilver or Subsilver2?

ProSilver is not as bad as AcidTech, but it's unfortunate they removed the frames around posts. As a consequence, a post page looks uniformly pale blue, so the section information is lost, contrarily to SubSilver2. Hmm. What do you think of SE Square Left? It's what we use at Warzone: http://forums...

Re: Prosilver or Subsilver2?

Interestingly, they were designed by the same person. Oh, I already knew that - I used to follow phpBB development closely back in the day. If I felt like being snarky, I'd probably say something like "Interestingly, it is possible for humans to learn a great deal about design over a period of seve...

Re: Prosilver or Subsilver2?

I don't really understand what most people have against prosilver.

Having used many different forums in my time, I've always preferred prosilver. subsilver2 always seemed like it was made by someone who didn't know as much about design.

Re: Aragwaith sprites updated!

As for hair colors, can you do variations? Is that possible in WML to make the unit sometimes use the straw-haired sprite and sometimes the charcoal-haired one? I like them both. Easiest way: Just declare one of them as female and one of them as male. Warning: May cause pronoun confusion, but iirc ...

Re: Bot giving WML advice.

The problem with Turing tests is that the user needs to agree to take the test. For instance: me: "Are you a bot?" person: "lol like a robot?" me: "Can you say 'red-tailed hawk' so I know you're not a bot?" person: "lol wat" me: "...Just say it." person: "y?" Like, I could conceivably imagine either...

Captain_Wrathbow wrote:How do you tell they're bots before they get noticed? (Since this seems to have become a thread for just general discussion about bots)
You don't. You just notice them before users do.

Re: Stay away from free to play games?

I have a very on again off again relationship with KoL, made much more enjoyable by the fact that free accounts are no longer deleted after x months of inactivity. Shoulda told me. I had a Mr. A I could've lent you for a day. Kingdom of Loathing is so funny, I've played it for a while back then. I ...

Re: Stay away from free to play games?

The thing with RuneScape is that there's always something nice just a few levelups away in one skill or another...Very addictive. It was only when I was level 72 and had pretty much run out of f2p things to do that I started to see what was happening. Every time I played I would be repeating a few ...

Re: Stay away from free to play games?

I had some friends who thought the game was called RunEscape. I'm not sure if it was because they never went to the site and only heard about it on IM where it was called "Runescape", or if the old logo didn't make it as obvious. Myself, I was into RuneScape for a while, but I got out when I discove...

Re: StarCraft II

But it should be. What pisses me off about virtually all RTS games, is how few units are in play (and being a guy who writes games, I'm well aware of processing/memory limitations that are the cause of this). When I picture some "epic space battle" in my head, it's got millions of soldiers running ...

Re: is RNG broken here or is it scenario?

I see no reason to force her invincible, anyway. If someone's smart enough to think of that strategy, why not?

Or maybe just have her recruit on the same turn she comes in. That would probably prevent that problem without such a counterintuitive mechanic.

Re: StarCraft II

I will certainly agree that the plot isn't as good as the original Starcraft, but I think that some had to be sacrificed for the nonlinearness. You can't really tell a story if the listener picks which parts he wants to hear in which order. And admit it, looking at the different choices and choosin...
