Re: Help needed with Legend of wemere: costly revenge

Wait, there aren't any Shydes? I just played this level in 1.6.1 or 1.6.2 and was able to recall all of them. Are they gone in 1.7? I can actually see how that would make sense story-wise, but given the enemy's huge amount of gold, it seems pretty unfair to take them away.

I don't think I've got the crouch stance right on this guy. Can anyone give me some pointers on fixing the pose? This is a frenzy unit, and I w...

Re: Scenario Review: LoW 16 - The Chief must die

So all the orcs come after you once you become visible in 1.7? Yeah, I can't imagine beating that. In the version I played, there's no way not to be seen at least a couple of times--if nothing else, you have to become visible to kill the chief. I thought the point was that the orcs can't know you're...

Re: A-Red's sprite art (Sorrow, etc)

Another unit, the winnower (or soulless, if it wasn't already taken). I've made two versions, one somewhat simpler. I'd like to handle the mystic smoke better than I did, but I'm not sure how yet. Kind of small again, but in this case it should be. Only half a body. I suspect that when I put in the ...

Re: Fearless

The whole point of this trait is making a unit fight favorably at a TOD it normally finds unfavorable, but it still retains the bonus of its favored TOD. Making it neutral would remove the favorable bonus. On the other hand, this would make perfect sense for mindless units like the Walking Corpse a...

Re: Are archers useless?

They're great when you level them, but I agree that level 1 archers are terrible--this is true of every archer line I've played with (bowmen, poachers, and elf archers). Out of those, the elf archers are the best, and the poachers are worst--I've never yet been able to level one, and I've played all...

Re: Scenario Review: LoW 16 - The Chief must die

In response to the above poster, I happen to have just beaten this level for the first time, and I did it on Medium. It was on 1.6.1, not 1.7, so perhaps the poster is right. I counted 10 riders of various types in the version of the level I played, and I actually killed every single one of them bef...

Here's an update on the wight:

You can see them side by side in the first post. Is this one better? I've been looking at them too long, and I have a hard time telling.

Re: Woodmouse's sprites

Be careful about lighting. Wesnoth units seem to take their light from the front and slightly up and to our right (their left), but yours seems to be from the far left (the units' right). That would make it look odd ingame. Also, your most detailed lighting work is on the pants, but they would be mo...

Re: A-Red's sprite art (Sorrow, etc)

For your sprites, particularly the newest one, they appear to be on the smaller side. I know you are not that far off from a mainline sprite, but you are missing the oversized elements used in those sprites to make up for their small size. I think I agree, but on the other hand I actually used Wesn...

Re: Art issues for Mainline Campaigns

What about the shadow mage line from Liberty? They play a pretty minor role, but like Owaec I'd say they're cruder than other mainline sprites.

Re: A-Red's sprite art (Sorrow, etc)

Well, Wesnoth sprites are in a different angle. But I won't say anything much, because I'm not an art person, even while I make lots of sprites. They do tend to have the 3/4 right side angle, but Swordsman+ and Spearman+ are from the front, and most Elves and Undead have still another angle. ...

The lower jaw, yes? I hadn't noticed it before. I've put an updated pic in the first post. I think I get the point, though. Call me crazy, but I actually like these proportions a lot. I think it makes him look really huge and tough.

A-Red's sprite art (Sorrow, etc) -- In: Harvester, Thresher

Hey all, I'm getting into spriting, and will use this thread as a general dump for things I've made for Wesnoth. Critiques welcome. So far, only standing frames, no animations. Fire Dragon tune-up

Hi, I've been tweaking the Fire Dragon--mainly to make another sprite, but since it's a mainline unit I thought I'd run this by you guys. The main goals were to make the head less lumpy and the lighting/shading less muddy. I really like the overall shape and concept of the current dragon, and I thin...
