Re: I've got design, you've got programming.

So far in the thread you pointed at it isn't clear which faction corresponds to which level of technology. Are the aliens spacefaring aliens? Do the enslaved humans know how to work bronze? Iron? Clay, even? ("Pottery" tech...) What about the humans who stayed free... do they have more or ...

[scroll_to] doesnt like the bottom of the map...

scroll_to mysteriously stopped working for me... ...but some experimenting got it working again by telling it to move to the row just above the bottom of the map, instead of to the bottom fow of the map. Weird... Fedora 13's wesnoth-1.8.1-1 Edit: oops, just discovered that although I had successfull...

Re: Campaign: Dwarven Kingdom (BfW1.7.x/1.8.x)

I got a Lua error when the hero climbed the ladder after defeating the saurians. Maybe I had more units than the code expected, it seems to have tried to place a unit someplace where it couldn't when teleporting my party to the next part of the map. units.lua:57:bad argument #1 to put_unit (invalid ...

Re: I've got design, you've got programming.

Ultimately I would like to be able to generate Wesnoth scanarios, or even campaigns, by means of scripts that parse Freeciv savegame files. I aim to have Freeciv "turns" take about a week or a month or so, based on typical MUD (and, it seems also Crossfire) time running at about two hours ...

Re: I've got design, you've got programming.

Aha, a designer! Awesome. I have been having a bit of a hard time with design myself, and thus have gotten sidetracked into various scaffolding and infrastructure projects instead... along with spending a lot of time researching exactly what is already in existence. The background is thus far just a...

Re: Conditional story parts & part components

I got a new computer, installed Fedora 13 on it, and installed BfW from its package system, BfW 1.8.1-1. The scenario with the conditional story stuff generates a segfault... EDIT: turns out the [else][/else] container is mandatory in an [if] inside a [story]. It can be empty, but must exist... -Mar...

Re: Conditional story parts & part components

Hmm, interesting, thanks I'll have to take a look at that tag. Currently I got the story stuff working but now it is looking like there might be a problem using [option] inside of a [message] that is inside an [if]... .......................... [else] [if] [variable] name=nation_extinct equals=1 [/v...

Conditional story parts & part components

I have not been able to get conditionals to work for story sections. I am currently writing for 1.6 so cannot yet use [case] for this. So unless I want to massively nest ifs I have to do without a catch-all else and just exhaustively cover each and every possibility even while most of them do not ye...

Re: Campaign bundle: Between the Worlds

You found the correct thread, well done. I was concerned no-one would be able to find it (even though search should have no trouble finding it). I have updated the first post to reflect changes now on the 1.6.x add-ons server such as the removal of the Li'sar experiment and expansion of the Time Cad...

Re: Campaign bundle: Between the Worlds

I have been busy for a while working on the "Freeciv" and "Crossfire" side of the work of the Institute of Chronodynamics, so I have only discovered today that changes made to the pre-processor defines for the positions used in the Space Cadet tutorial broke the "Time Lord&q...

Re: The kind of RPG I would like to see

I figured an online game, not a game the entirety of which resides on a player's own machine. There are more and more providers offering the kind of huge computing resources that it would need, a few I can think of offhand being Sun's Darkstar, Amazon's computing cloud and Google's similar offering,...

Re: Campaign bundle: Between the Worlds

I will look at the Li'sar scenarios again, though they are so far just an experiment as I haven't figured out a good way to 'force' the outcome that history demands. Basically all she needs do is surrender. That she is lied to about how to win seems to be basically the situation she was in in HTTT. ...

Statically linked proprietary bit-sequences

If I understand correctly some arguments I have read in restricted area, musicians have apparently submitted as GNU licensed bit-sequences sequences which contain proprietary 'samples' or which result from the compilation of various proprietary 'samples'. Is that correct? I had the impression as a '...

Re: The kind of RPG I would like to see

Like umpteen other people I too have been working toward this for decades. I reached a point where I figured I had to do it top down instead of bottom up. That is, instead of starting with individual characters in an inn or tavern or village trying to gradually invent a larger and larger world aroun...
