Re: Analysis required. Rebels against random
I... don't think there's a difference, actually.

Re: Analysis required. Rebels against random
Mermen on Freelands in general are not quick to move to just about anywhere. I hardly ever recruit water units on Freelands, but this might be as much preference as them not being useful. Personally I can sort of see their use in defense, but in your situation I would've definitely gone for a land u...

Re: Analysis required. Rebels against random
- Remember that you can use your scout to explore your opponent's troops instead of just pressing end turn. - I think you have seen enough cavalry units to realize that a wose is not a particularly smart recruit. - In turn 9, your archer attacks the mage with arrows. Why? You gained hardly anything ...

Re: Blade damage
Velensk is right. I completely forgot about the horseman for some reason. Like the thief, he is a special case - he only gets his power on the attack, and at the cost of suffering additional damage in return. Strong clashers are the overall strongest unit in the game that does not need to make tacti...

Re: Blade damage
I don't think strong clashers at day are beaten by anything, actually. 9-4 is 36 average damage. Woses, wielding the most powerful melee attack unmodified of all, end at I think 16-2, which is only 32 average damage. The only thing that can match a drake clasher's average damage is a strong thief in...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
Then post a signup notice for a micro tournament once you're ready. But start with a 32 limit at least. 16 people just isn't a ladder tournament, it's a "whoever was reading the ladder online thread recently plus a couple lucky guys who saw the announcement first" tournament. Actually I'd ...

Re: You think a faction is overpowered? Come here!
It would make them more useful against skeletons, but not to a degree they become worthwhile anti-skeleton recruits. Thunderers against undead have the job of bat/walking corpse wasting and possible defending against adepts, and adding a crappy 6-1 melee impact attack wouldn't disrupt the balance ov...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
A ladder tournament would be an all-around great idea in the concept, and of course extremely hard to execute. If I were holding one, it would look as follows: 1. Signup through the ladder site : A button that players can click within a certain time period (four weeks sounds fair) that registers the...

Re: You think a faction is overpowered? Come here!
Merely changing the type of the melee attack... the thunderer would become stronger in melee against many undead, butt in on footpad territory, and suck more in defense against woses. The dwarvish fighter would still be your go-to place for impact melee, but thunderers would be not much worse, and m...

Re: Favorite freeware game
ADOM still holds the number one spot in my heart. Battle for Wesnoth, Dwarf Fortress and Iji rank quite high as well.

Re: Missing Dwarves in Multiplayer
Not more of an advantage than drakes have over them. Undead are generally considered the slowest faction, while drakes are the fastest, so the 19-2 damage of the adept at night does not come in as often as the undead player will like.

Re: Missing Dwarves in Multiplayer
And that is why, at this point, the balancers should pay attention to how the game is played at a high level, to fine-tune the balance. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Oh, whoops; sorry, I thought we were still talking about balancing in general. Re-reading my statement, I guess I promoted the misu...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
From a competitive standpoint, the most sensible course of action already is to specialize on one map. While there are many different 1vs1 maps available, since you cannot be forced to play on any one of them, you can just restrict yourself to accepting challenges, or opening matches, on that one ma...

Re: Missing Dwarves in Multiplayer
If one faction has a considerably higher share of wins among beginners, that means that the faction is easier and more straightforward to play, not that it's inherently more powerful than others. Having newbie-friendly and newbie-unfriendly factions in itself is not necessarily a bad thing; it becom...

Re: Missing Dwarves in Multiplayer
There may be lots of matches, but not all of them are useful for balancing purposes, as you need matches with as few mistakes as possible, played by skilled players, to get any information relevant to balancing.
