Re: Newbish Luck,
I don't really have any experience on the map to speak of, but the complaints as I remember them is that the map is too cramped for drakes, who can't use their mobility well to retreat at night, and that it slightly favors factions with water units because of the water villages. I can't say I know.

Re: Favorite strategy/tactic
There are some situations in which a leader assassination attempt does have odds of over 60, 70 percent - in those cases, it is generally worth going for in even matches, even if failure results in loss of the match. Exception being that you can instead kill other units more safely and obtain a clea...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
I recently thought how thoroughly cool it would be, just to start off, to hold a Top 16 ladder tournament - nothing but the Top 16 of the ladder, seeded into four KO rounds, facing off against each other to determine the Top 16 Ladder Champion. Each match would have to be best of five (and I'd incre...

Re: Overpowered Faction. Requires reduction.
In short, no, drakes are not overpowered against any faction. Their units are fast, but they don't have much staying power: Saurians have low HP and several weaknesses, but only 40% on open terrain; Drakes tend to have higher than average HP but their level 1s cannot exceed 40% defense and only have...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
The second replay had no indication of an intention of carlos' to retire from Wesnoth "again", as far as I can see. (Though it is quite funny to see the contrast between his complaints of having lost the one game on luck, and the second on the opponent's skill.) This is not the first time ...

Re: Alternate Era: default era + unique leaders for each faction
Introducing 18 all-new units in order to fix a relatively minor balance issue? Sounds to me like it would add to the problem rather than solve it. I also think the power crank was turned too high. Some of these leaders are beasts . This increases their combat value on their battlefield, by extension...

Re: The Point of Goblins?
"I've picked the goblin to do [what job] because it's better suited at it than any other unit I have in my arsenal." This will lead to misleading results simply because counted individually , it isn't better suited at anything, except maybe for raw damage against cavalry. (Isn't it remark...

Re: The Point of Goblins?
The Burner is one of the few units in the game that is primarily ranged, but also has a decent melee attack. Another unit with similar strength is the thunderer. And I would very much use the goblin against a burner, just not at day . And a goblin would have to be quite damaged to not be able, for i...

Re: Footpad + ulf v undead, overpowered
A bat-heavy recruit would blow against this strategy - Have footpads pebble and ZoC them or send in the ulfs - drain or not, the ulf's offense is much too strong for the bat to resist for long. In fact, part of the mistakes your opponent made was recruiting too many bats (and then handling them poor...

Re: The Point of Goblins?
Goblin spearmen aren't "supposed" to be good at attacking any unit with a strong melee attack on the wrong time of day. If you have to do that, you're either desperate or trying to finish off a hurt unit. Yes, goblins more often run a risk of dying on the attack than other units do. They h...

I'm not sure how "blitz" is defined. Does an adept vs. drakes rush count?

Re: Drake Warrior OP on Fallenstar?
I'd have to agree with Tonepoet: If your opponent gives up the southern route to the point of you being able to have a good shot at entrenching your leader, you're already on the advantage. Sending your leader closer to the enemy in this case strikes me as risky, especially with drakes who get few d...

Re: Drakes vs Random, initial recruit
I'd have to agree that not being able to recruit their ranged specialist units in the initial recruit without running risk of them being out-countered is not a significant disadvantage. Fighters and gliders are quite versatile, and both are equipped with respectable ranged attacks which are also fir...

Re: The Point of Goblins?
Grunts and trolls are unrivalled already when it comes to cheap HP. Goblins don't offer cheap HP. They get only double their price in HP, while grunts get triple (trolls even more). This makes them more desirable at defending in my eyes. The XP issue doesn't really change this I think - you get 4 XP...

Re: The Point of Goblins?
Goblins are also more reliable than grunts at killing, with one more strike to their name. A true "goblin spam" is unlikely to be very successful, but having one or two of them around definitely doesn't hurt. They also happen to have the best gold to damage conversion rate of any unit acro...
