Re: Heir to the throne comics

When I first looked at your post, I was taken aback because the same thing happened to me. I don't know if I should be amused or depressed...

Re: Corvvs' Thread of Ill-Fated Portraits: Merman Hunter

I took some time to fully absorb kitty's tutorial. I refined the lines a bit and restarted the shading with more neutral base colors that are also a bit closer to what they should be. @Turuk: both valid points - I've put in some lines on the spears to guide my shading and will do the scales differen...

Re: Corvvs' Thread of Ill-Fated Portraits: Merman Hunter

I'll take the lack of commentary as a good sign, and keep running with this. Here's an update - shaded the leather and hair a bit. Next up, spear shafts and mer-tail.

EDIT: image removed.

Dayum. Sweet mages. The hood on the one on our right though seems to jut back to far. I'd think it would curve down sooner, maybe with some wrinkles.

Re: Corvvs' Thread of Ill-Fated Portraits: Merman Hunter

I looked around a bit and outlined in orange what I think should be there. Is this right (the orange, not the shading so much)?

Re: Corvvs' Thread of Ill-Fated Portraits: Merman Hunter

@CountPenguin: yes, as Neoskel said, I'm doing shading first, then I'll fix it to be a nicer color.

@TSI: better?

Re: Corvvs' Thread of Ill-Fated Portraits: Merman Hunter

Alright... I've started shading, and I know I didn't fix the waist strap yet - I'll get to that. Any pointers on the shading though (or egregious linework/anatomy errors)?

I'll probably not get back to this till next weekend, but any tips would be nice :)

Re: Corvvs' Thread of Ill-Fated Portraits: Merman Hunter

Ok. I think I fixed the hair and face (and I took away the ribcage lines). Here's the new version with kitty's paintover showing too.

The paintover is really faint, so you have to click it.

Re: Corvvs' Thread of Ill-Fated Portraits: Merman Hunter

I fiddled with the pose so that it looks less dynamic. The spear is now resting on his shoulder as it was originally supposed to be. Though it may look awkward, I tried the pose and it's not uncomfortable.
