Re: An Issue of Polish: Because everyone else gets to rant...

Everyone seems to be ranting lately. Personally, I think the biggest place where Wesnoth could improve is merely polish. Randomness is here to stay, if you don't like it there's a new mod you can contribute to (but the fact that most of such mods tend to die speaks for itself). Pretty much every ma...

Re: improvements on multiplayer and the in-game user interface

6) There is a large space in the menu to the right between character information and the 'end turn' button. Solution: Fill it with something useful. Some of the options in the action menu would, in my opinion, be more useful as buttons. The 'next unit' button, for example, could be directly above t...

Re: Putting Leader self-preservation into the AI

the idea may be fuzzy for you and me, but it need not be. I have lost more than a few games from failing to protect my units correctly. Brute force shouldn't be an issue since the AI usually doesn't control more than 1 such unit (per AI team). the safety % should be decided by the WML, as you want t...

Re: Luck in Wesnoth: Rationale

I wouldn't mind altering the RNG, but its not a terrible issue for me. I don't think it would have that huge effect if the RNG was altered in the right way. Consider multiplying all unit's hp and number of strikes by 2. Any effect other than reducing luck would be psychological. Considering the host...

Re: Putting Leader self-preservation into the AI

I think that the problem lies not in the computer's absolutes, but the inability of humans to express the processes by which they function. "If a must-live guy is in danger then run." I think is a good principle for the AI to go by. What must be defined: danger: brute force the list of units that ca...

Re: Choose what scenario to play in Campaign Menu

All you would really need to do is, when someone goes to the campaign screen and selects a campaign to play, it presents them with an option, before selecting difficulty level, of, "Start a new game or load save?", and if they select load save it goes to the loading menu with the campaign acronym b...

A replay with an impromptu story

I played a game of Wesnoth today, and an observer started narrating a story. He asked me to post it, so here it is. Apparently, he really likes Knalgans, so Orc lovers probably shouldn't open this.

Re: Contemplating the RNG...

I think the point is not if the randomization in Wesnoth is wotking or not. The point, for me and a lot of people is that it is too much randomization, it just ruin the game play. Wesnoth has a solid enogth gameplay to not need ramdomization, or at least not that much. It should be reduced by half,...

Re: Cursing - new type of attack

This should not effect defense. CTH should be based *only* upon terrain, as that is an established principle of fighting in Wesnoth. It could also be unbalancing, as elusivefoot units would die instantly. However, I like the general idea. Alternate effects for curse: 1. Unit does half damage (like s...

Re: Balance Issues

Balance is relative to maps. Making a categorical claim that the factions are unbalanced is an untenable position because: 1. One may attempt to apply balance issues from maps like Isar's Cross to more balanced maps. 2. One may simply not see a counter-strategy that works well (currently looking for...

They (dwarf witnesses) seem to be more like judges rather than medics though.

Except for the healing (and perhaps cure), actually I think he fits in quite well.

Re: The most fearsom player in the world

I wouldn't like a no luck Wesnoth, but games where luck is so nasty are just not fun. Perhaps a Low Luck Dice mod could be made for Wesnoth similar the TripleA system?

THoT, why heal?

Why does the Dwarf Witness have healing? It is somewhat uncharacteristic of the Dwarves and is not needed in any scenario except perhaps Invaders. By the time healing is really useful, white mages are available.

EDIT: To clarify, it is actually the third level of the Dwarf Witness that has healing.
