the event=17 thing is a gui glitch that shouldn't have anything to do with your issue, I get it a lot when playing last few dev releases in windowed mode

And what about separate multiplayer achievements? No . Actually, which FPI does that fall under, considering there could be achievements such as "play 10 games from start to finish", "play a 4v4 game from start to finish", with little emphasis on rank-like achievements ("win 3 games" or something)?

there were compatibility-breaking changes in 1.7 so you should not expect saves from 1.6 to work flawlessly, or at all (maybe start-of-scenario saves work).

The VC9 projectfiles seem a bit undermaintained lately, partly because I've given up due to lack of time and build on windows solely using mingw/scons. In general, missing symbols in 'wesnoth' are likely due to some new files that got added to the source tree, but not to the project file. The wesnot...

No. A lot of people are very happy when a 40% hit chance for some unit on grass is always the same forty percent, two out of five chance. Any form of maiknig the RNG "fair" will screw this up.

Also have a look at the "map screenshot" hotkey (creates a screenshot of the entire map, not just what you see on screen)

Dave: it's an option because when I changed the behavior I think one or two devs complained about it with a use case that seemed reasonable enough to warrant an option. Might want to change the default though, I don't remember which way it is now.

You're just increasing the chance of hitting behind the scenes. What you call "brutal" is just the result of the "algorithm" favoring more hits. Much easier to just go through the WML and make all attacks more likely to hit.

Here's my thoughts: Fog/shroud icons: I'm not that convinced a teensy F/S there is such a good idea, and translated images were an idea but I don't think it actually got far. I like the hex-shape idea, but the fog doesn't look different enough from the no-fog version to me. Maybe try to have more of...
