Re: Writing Music

Sorry, but I can't seem to be able to download any of them from that website. Mind uploading them somewhere else? (Such as box.net, for example)

Re: an .ogg got lost?

Do you mean Solemn Autumn? http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=20642 Or maybe this: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=21608

On that note, I think there's a lot of great pieces that have been passed over like this and this.

Re: A first attempt

Oh, right, I was working on this. Um, yeah, I can't seem to get West's samples to work (something strange with instrument ranges going on; hopefully I'll figure it out eventually), but I did manage to find the mistake in the GPO samples I was using; I corrected it. I also added a bit of reverb and m...

Re: A first attempt

Coincidentally, I just read about your beta SSO on this forum, West - would you mind PMing me a copy for use in my piece? I really can't afford anything fancy like East/West, unfortunately.

Re: A first attempt

Thanks, Jetryl! :D Heh, it seems no one likes the cowbell, er, woodblock, in the middle. Hopefully it'll sound better once I find better samples and get some real reverb going in the piece - is the rule that instruments farther back should have a lot of reverb, and that instruments in the front shou...

Re: Dark Passage

The glockenspiel arpeggiated chords at ~0.58 sound a bit too cutesy for the atmosphere, but otherwise, I enjoyed it. I'm happy with the level of reverb as well.

Re: A first attempt

quite nice. Some part sound really a lot like the actual game music And this drum in the middle is really ... weird. Enjoyed ! Yeah, like I said above, much of the middle is a direct quotation of Still Another Wanderer. About the drum, you mean the wood block + maraca rhythm? To my ears, that actua...

Re: A first attempt

Timothy still hasn't responded, so I'll go ahead and post the updated versions. Here are the antiquated versions, for those of you who are interested in how this piece was developed. silver3.mp3 silver4.mp3 silver5.mp3 silver6.mp3 And the current version, which is finished in terms of length, but st...

Re: Mountain music

Firstly, it still has no real structure. Secondly, it's chamber music; what we're looking for is orchestral. Thirdly, your samples sound extremely synthy (I feel so hypocritical saying this). Sorry, but try to listen to the ingame music to get a feel for what BfW is looking for.

And it still has no particular direction or structure, as West said.

Re: Over the Northern Mountains (Cold :P)

Wow. That's all I can say. This piece is incredible; I can't wait to see it committed. I only have one comment: At the beginning of the coda, there are strange whistly-slidy-thingies (for lack of a better term) which really threw me off. They sound like woodwinds, but I'm not sure because they go by...

Re: A first attempt

Higher quality samples are a must, they would transform this piece. Yeah, definitely; I'm beginning to hate Garritan (though I can't afford much more). Anyone have any suggestions on what sample library to use? I'd also raise the relative volume on the drums. I already made that change in the newer...

Re: A first attempt

I haven't posted an update in a while because the newer versions of the piece contain arrangements of TimothyP's Wanderer theme (as suggested in this thread ), and he requested that anyone using his themes first okay it with him. We exchanged a few PMs on this, and I requested permission to post the...

Re: In Memory Of

The first and second of the last three solo bell notes sound like they were cut off. Overall quite a nice atmospheric piece, this.
