Re: Portrait size

Wow, I didn't expect that there was hope to break the 500 limit at the top! I can only echo what has already been said: If we do this we should only allow it for special units, not for everyone who has a lance or spear. Natural cutting from the top is perfect as long as it crops down only to 500 and...

Re: Help on a budding artist's career

Hi Hippo! And Welcome! You telling us that the stuff on DA are mostly doodles and cartoons doesn't really make me want to spend my time checking it out… But I did and the cartoons are quite nice :P But what is your aim here? Are you preparing for a practical test or do you have to present a portfoli...

Re: Sleepwalker's randomness, current - IftU Demon portraits

More art for IftU! Yay! Very demon-ish and I really like the undeveloped wings on her back! But I'm not so sure about her head's position, I can turn my head like that but it's really uncomfortable… Plus her jaw line should be at more of an angle and her ear should be a tad lower. His rear hand coul...

Re: Dutch Image Localization

The logo looks nearly finished to me, but Jetrel is the one who needs to give the final okay. However, the "Strijd om Wesnoth" is still not centered horizontally. There is a white spot right above the "W", please get rid of that. And the "h" of "Wesnoth" is cut of at the very right edge. The main ma...

Re: Campaign art - The Rise of Wesnoth

I've got the feeling I'm starting all my posts in this thread the same: But you've got so much great new stuff here again! :) Regarding the new coloring approach, of course I'm familiar with Moebius but I'm not aware that he used colored hatching, I rather remember black ink hatching on top of soft ...

Re: Dutch Image Localization

You're not that bad! It's just rather obvious that you aren't doing that kind of stuff every day... I was appaled by the explanation not by your work ;) Much better now! The "om" could still be a bitcloser, as well as the n-o in Wesnoth. And the spaces between the words appear to be rather big, try ...

Re: Dutch Image Localization

Okay, I admit I never saw this $*!#?! explanation how to set text. This way the non design person who sets the type has to do the whole kerning manually?! Oh well. The key to kerning is to try to make the amount of space between each pair two letters appear about the same visually. Like between an u...

Re: Dutch Image Localization

Yes, the distances between the letters. You edited those manually, right? The designer of the font probably put some thought and intention in it... Don't change those if you aren't really sure what you are doing ;)

What did you do to the kerning/spacing of the letters?!

Re: Help on a budding artist's career

I'll assume he/she'll need some kind of a portfolio to get in this school. So he/she will necessarily get a lot of practice in the next couple of weeks when producing portfolio pieces... (if you could link to some art, comments could be a lot more specific) To do that on the necessary level, he/she ...

Re: Khalifate facelift: final tweaks in progress

Kitty: Thanks for the pointers! Just one thing seems a little unclear, by the ear being at a wrong angle, do you mean i should basically rotate it counter-clockwise? I think that is what you mean anyway, I'll see what I can do about it all. Yep, a bit of counter-clockwise rotation. And if you have ...

Re: TAM artwork

Nice stuff going on here!

Just a quick comment on the ogres. Watch the way you draw their hands! Hands tell a lot about character and your ogre hands seem a lot too slender and elegant to me - make them big and short and stubby and the whole figure will appear more ogrely brutish!

Hell yes! That has to be one of my very favourite concepts for the humanoid kind of lich up to now!

If you'd finish him up I'd like to put him in as an alternate lich, Sleepwalker!

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan portrait repaints

About the comic-vibe... I don´t think it´s really any stronger than in my earlier portraits. When it´s all rendered it will probably look as realistic as any of my other portraits. :) Okay, I'm sure he'll get more realistic with your shading, I didn't take that sufficiently into consideration. But ...

Re: Campaign art - The Rise of Wesnoth

And so much great new pictures again! About the new liney shading style on Aryad and Isothimir - I'm curious: Could you describe your new approach in more detail? Is it purely an asthetic choice or more of an improvement of the workflow? (And of course both look great!) The new version of Dionli has...
