Re: "Fantasy Wars"

I hate the original poster with such a fury...

I promised myself not to spend any money on gaming around when I discovered Dwarf Fortress (sorry, Wesnoth :P)... but now I may just have to buy this game. :annoyed:

Re: AMLA suggestion

Delfador: "It hurts, but it will be ok. An old man like me should be resting and reading books, not fighting." What if Delfador just said this when he gets AMLA without any changes in the effect of AMLA? It seems to me that reducing his power when he levels up would violate KISS in a weird, pervers...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

I'm not saying the Wesnoth developement community should change... just explaining that people don't grow attached to Wesnoth because they can't (for the very good reasons anakayub stated) contribute. As for the multiplayer community, I believe we can only speculate as to why it's so bad... but what...

Re: Discussion of 2D RTSes. Still viable?

If being a "gamer" without being a computer expert has taught me anything, ANYTHING AT ALL, it's that modern technology is something to be feared - feared, loathed, crushed, and despised. ... okay, maybe that was a little extreme. But my point is, nobody who is serious about gaming (oxymoron?) would...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

I don't know how to say this without sounding like a flame, but... Well, frankly, the Wesnoth community is repulsive, and I use that word in the strictest sense, in that it discourages people from wanting to join or participate, instead of being "bad." To start, the multiplayer community is really f...

Re: Knalgans and water

You don't need to be able to butt heads with fish factions on water in the same way that nobody's expected to butt heads with elves in forests or dwarves in mountains. You do need to be able to handle the presence of water on a map and gryphon riders fulfill that need by being good enough so that yo...

Re: Re-balancing the horse unit to increase survivability

Anakayub raises a good point when comparing mages to horsemen. Are they similar in their balance of strengths and weaknesses? I wish that were. True, they are both vulnerable but its possible, through careful manuevering, to have a mage strike with the full force of their attack while taking little...

Re: Knalgans and water

Maps where the ability to dominate water is disproportionately useful are unbalanced, as would be maps where it would be gamewinning to dominate forests, mountains, swamps, and caves. If naval supremacy can cost you a game, you should take it up with the map, not the faction. It's a given that certa...

And of course, you should always seek to bring in high levelled units of your own. Try to get as many of your units to level up as possible and keep him from levelling up as often as possible.

I think his feet are still shifting up at the last frame, though I don't know what a more experienced sprite artist would say about it. I don't know if this is really a valid concern, but the guardsman appears to be getting hit in the torso, putting his hand over the wound and then dying. That's all...

The way I see it, technology is advancing at that snail's crawl medieval pace, but at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter enough to warrant any changes to units' stats, graphical updates, or new units. Let's say the orcs learn, at some point, to make swords out of steel instead of iron. So ...
