Linux audio distro on wimpy laptop?

Hey all, it's been ages since I posted anything in here. I have a question though and considering this forum's high percentage of Linux users, I figured it might be just the right place to ask. Anyway. I have an ageing budget laptop ( ASUS X58C ) presently running Windows XP. But I'm thinking of set...

Re: Ask for a suggestion

I'm going to bump this with a suggestion (almost a year later... sorry) -- in this situation you might try just composing to the best level that your hardware/software will allow and then asking someone else to take a look at your stuff and finishing the final orchestration and performance using be...

Re: Regarding Creative Common Licence

@West Thanks for the reply. I'm using Windows 7 on a Laptop :/ and my keyboard is rather old. Windows 7 is an excellent OS for working with audio, you have a whole plethora of tools at your disposal. Working on a laptop is not a problem either as long as it's fairly powerful. Neither is your keyboa...

Re: Midi files of all used compositions so far available?

More to the point: there is a huge difference between the midi files of yore and today's DAW projects. A midi file has only 16 channels -- 16 different sounds -- and is limited to the instrument selection of the General MIDI standard (google it) and its various descendants like GS and XG. When you u...

Re: Regarding Creative Common Licence

You will need a DAW and low latency drivers for your sound card. Can't be any more specific than that without knowing what OS you're on. Linux? OS X? Windows?

You will also need orchestral samples, some free ones are listed here.

Don't wander off, I don't think that's what he meant. There just aren't serious contributors here now, but if you want to break that trend, he'd review it. (I'm not his agent, but I'm pretty sure he would.) That was what I was trying to say, yes. I'm not personally working on any Wesnoth music and ...

Re: Activity?

Last I talked to him Tyler said he is very busy with work, so I try to keep an eye on things when I can. I don't think you should expect any new material coming from either me or him anytime soon. I'd definitely love to hear some new high-quality contributions but sadly there doesn't seem to be any ...

As a matter of fact, I did. I said go right ahead with it. I even offered to make a guest appearance on guitar on some tune.

Never heard from you again.

Re: New Composition

Right, sorry. First of all I'm not clear on what "suitable for Wesnoth" means in this case. UMC? Absolutely. Mainline? Not in its present form, a lot of the samples are too lo-fi sounding. Still, a cool composition that moves through a lot of moods with a good sense of flow. Some remarks: - Too much...

Re: Where is the topic of resourcers for composers?

I believe that would be a return on their money. Which, by the literal meaning of the words, makes no sense, as colloquialisms are alas wont to do. That is probably what threw me off as well. I thought marcusvinicius was talking about customers getting their money back. At any rate, I tend to look ...

Re: UMC music maintainer(s) ahoy

A question I've actually had for a while, what are good settings for converting .mp3 or other files to .ogg? I've been using media.io with the High (~192 kbits/sec), but I just arbitrarily chose that since the site was convenient and High sounds decent. I don't think there are *any* good settings f...
