Should I be writing for 1.3.1 or 1.2.4?

I am working on a campaign idea and I am wondering which trunk I should write for. It looks like it's not easy to switch campaigns from one to the other. I like 1.3.1 because the maps can include "farmland" as a tile, and I like the way that looks on the maps. But is that a good enough reason to go ...

Ah! OK, I didn't know that was called "shroud." But shroud really isn't what I'm looking for. Fog suits what I have in mind better because people could see the general lay of the land but not the details (i.e. enemy units). Shroud is best for underground exploring. Outside you should be able to see ...

Well, shield is kind of another version of 'steadfast'. Maybe I can steal the code from that. Steadfast uses "multiply=2". Could I instead use the code "increase=20"? Also, how would I get it to work only against ranged attacks? [resistance] id=steadfast multiply=2 max_value=50 apply_to=blade,pierce...

OK, here's a really complicated and dumb way of doing it, but it might work. You put the entire fight into an animated .png image. That in itself would take plenty of work. Also you'd need to put the sounds into a sound file as well. Then you kill the units, put the image on the map, play the sound,...

Manipulating Fog

I wanted to ask some questions about using fog in a scenario. 1. Can I have the fog only appear at night? If the intent is to restrict visibility then it makes sense that visibility would be reduced only at night. 2. Can I have fog cover only parts of a map? I wanted to do a "Misty Forest" scenario ...

Creating new Weapon Specials, Traits, and Abilities

Hi, folks. Is it possible to create new weapon specials, trait effects, and abilities using WML? If so how would you do it? These are the specials I would like to have for a campaign idea I am working on: Clumsy - Attack never has better than 50% chance to hit Defender - Attack does only half damage...

1. The Great River The way the river is currently portrayed on the map is the correct one. That's kind of a shame... on the original map the southern river made a good trade route, but now it really doesn't go anywhere. Also, I liked the idea that when Haldric first arrived he was given "The lands ...

It occurs to me that the Troll Spam technique might work if you also added some high damage-dealing units to the mix. Trolls are good in many ways - high HP, resistances, regeneration - all these make them tough to kill. But the main problem I see with them is that trolls have a pretty weak attack -...

First off, I should point out that I don't really have a problem with the "holy" damage type. I don't think it's a big issue, since the concept of attacks that have special power against undead are pretty common in RPGs. It does bother me that the Paladin is rather weak against living units, since h...

Background info and map questions

OK, I'm not talking about scenario or MP maps here, but rather the overland maps of the land of Wesnoth and environs that appear in the background when the game is loaded, or between scenarios in HttT and others. First of all, there are some clear differences between the map that appears in version ...

Re: South Guard 7b. Pebbles in the Flood

(1) What difficulty levels and game versions have you played the scenario on? (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) (3) How clear did you find the scenario objectives? (4) How clear and interesting did you find the dialog and storyline of the scenario? (5) What were your major challen...

Yes, it's Muff Janaal - he may have some relation to Muff Malaal from the peninsula but it's not the same guy. You would have had it easier with the undead had you taken the sea route to the Isle of the Damned. You get a white mage with a kickass melee attack (he has a magic sword) and you also can ...
