yeah, but an absolute difference becomes relatively more important when the base number is lower. in other words, an increase of 10 points (that's how you name "static" increases in %) is better when you have a base of 30% than when you have a base of 50%, because in one case you get +33,33%, while...

Having defence of 30% instead of 40% will result in being hit 16.6% more often while having 50% instead of 60% will result in being hit 25% more often. So the point that the difference isn't the same is valid. The beauty of statistics. If a unit receive 100 attacks, you can expect the same absolute...

Thanks, that makes sense.

BTW, there is an irrelevant mispelling on the units.cfg file for the drakefly movetype. In defense, it says cavewal=80 (just one l). As they never can't enter a cavewall I suppose it wouldn't matter.

Chocobone description repeated three times

Hello, I have noticed that the chocobone.cfg file is repeated three times in different campaing unit folders (Heir to the Throne, The rise of Wesnoth and The south guard). Also, the 6 images are repeated in the three campaign folders. I am pointing this because it is the only unit on the official ga...

Re: Older unit archive

I'd still like to download the WHOLE data for a specific version. I am also new to the SVN, but I was able to download all the data related files for an older version from the svn server. These were the steps: 1.- Install a svn client. The subversion web page has binaries for many OS, check them at...

Now that I think of it a bit further...yeah, definitely too much work if you'd port things other than balancing changes (that would be pretty simple). If you'd want to port campaign changes, graphics (other than terrain - terrain should be easy) etc, too much work. You are right, I am wrong. I have...

Wouldn't it be more useful to find out what is actually causing the slow-down? Completely agree, but the only thing I know how to program is scripts, so I have chosen a part where I can do something. I know that it is not the solution, but this is the little that I can contribute to the game. If it...

Fix version is a big word for what we were discussing here. Right now I am trying to rewrite the unit files so they reflect the changes on balance that have been done from version 1.0.2 to 1.1.11. After that, I will try to rewrite the campaing files, so they follow the current storyline. I am not ma...

Thanks for the information, I was working on a perl script (attached) that gets the information from the units files and puts it on several tab separated files. I have used it on Windows, executing the script from the data folder of Wesnoth. The idea was to generate raw information for a database / ...

I agree with your points, the user experience with a game is with the whole game, talking about libraries is nonsense from that point of view. And with the old computer games, I also can only talk on what I remember. From a more practical perspective, reviewing the changelog I have seen that many of...

How about because the commercial games have fancy top-notch 3D graphics, and open source games look like crap? Not all of them, take a look at http://www.nexuiz.com/ on FPS, for example. And in strategy, I prefer Wesnoth look and feel over Heros of M&M any version, for example. Seriously, a game th...

Wesnoth 1.0.2 is works fine for me That is much more that you can say of many of the commercial games released in the last three years. I don't understand why in general we accept easily the huge machine requirements in commercial software, but not on open source. In any case, Linux is really inter...

Mages advancement

Just a comment on the suggested mage advancement. I am playing 1.1.11 in normal, and my choices were to advance Elrian from the Isle of Anduin all the way to Great Mage (he has just achieved it on the Specter of Fire), and win the Isle of the Damned to get Moremirnu, a Mage of Light by now. This way...

My first post, but this is something that worked for me. After reading the discussion about the trident, I modified the items.cfg file to remove the animation part, and it worked for me. I have attached it here, if you want to use it just copy it to the /data directory of your Wesnoth installation (...
