i'm curious why the md5sum isnt posted right here instead of or in addition to downloadable. seems like a lot of extra clicks for user and network load on the system.

I'm not convinced that having the game server(s), website, wiki, forums, etc all on the same box is a good idea. One example: the multiplayer server gets bogged down with some error message, so people flood the forums looking for info, thereboy doubly DoS-ing the box so admins can't even fix stuff. ...

Maybe the amount of gold carryover can be adjusted based on the campaign challenge level. For example to ensure that Hard (a level the player chose, after all) is actually challenging to play, you could set all scenarios starting gold to minimum. thats strange... i think when i played it on Normal in 1.2.4, the orcs advanced and eventually attacked me in the camp. maybe i shouldnt have grabbed those villages on land or sea.
